Ashley

I f it was wrong to get turned on when Nathan grabbed my neck and pulled me down for a kiss that short-circuited my brain, then I didn’t want to be right.

When I finally broke the kiss, only after hearing him groan in pain, I touched my fingers to my lips.

“Now will you please stop talking trash about my fiancée?” he asked, using the term like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Nathan wasn’t my first gorgeous alpha male, but there was no doubt he’d be my last. I smiled behind my fingers. “We’re engaged.”

“We are.”

“Where will we live?” We couldn’t live in his hotel room, and I didn’t think he’d want to live with Gran.

“I’ll build us a house.”

“Just like that? You’ll build us a house?”

“I’ll have to hire an architect and builders, but yeah, just like that.” His grin was hiding something.

But what?

Trusting he’d tell me eventually, I tackled my next concern. “But I don’t have a job.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll support you.” He squeezed my hand.

“How? You’ll be out of work while you heal.”

He grinned. “Have you forgotten what I told you? I made good money in the SEALs and invested. I did well. Hawken’s paid me a fuckton more, and I invested most of that, too.”

Is he rich? “How much is a fuckton?”

“A lot.” He shrugged.

“So when you asked me all those questions about what I’d do if money wasn’t an issue?”

“I wanted to know if you’d be open to letting me support you.”

“Because you have a fuckton of money. So, you’re rich?” I didn’t care about the money, but he was being so mysterious about it I couldn’t help but ask.

“Yes.”

“Like, Blake rich?” Blake was rich enough that she hadn’t batted an eye when she made a very generous donation to the hospital, ensuring everyone from SSI would have a private room.

He tilted his head. “I don’t know. How rich is Blake?”

“Almost a billionaire. She’s the reason you won’t have a roommate while you’re here.”

“Really?” His eyes opened wide.

Blake inherited her fortune, but you’d never know she was rich. She was down to earth and didn’t flaunt her wealth. Even when she was making sizable donations to charities. Or the hospital .

“Yup. So?”

“I’m not a billionaire, but I have a couple dozen million in investments.”

My jaw dropped, but a knock interrupted us before I could ask the rest of my questions.

“Come in,” he called out.

“Hey, how are you feeling?” his friend asked.

“Alive and juiced up.”

Kroupa laughed. “Enjoy it while you can. How bad is it?”

“I’ll need a few weeks of light duty.” Nathan winked at me. “But I’ll make a full recovery.”

My face warmed as color rushed to my cheeks.

“Ashley, can I have a minute with Nathan?”

“Of course.” When I stood, Nathan pulled me back down for a kiss. Blushing, I said, I’ll be right outside.”
