GLOSSARY
This is the first book I’ve written in this series that doesn’t have a Canadian protagonist, so there are fewer Canadianisms in this book than the first three novels. (But it is still written in Canadian English, due to setting and series continuity—and scene-stealing Canucks.)
So instead, this book’s glossary will focus on hockey and chef terms!
Also, it’s possible that some of the hockey slang defined below are regional, too, and not used everywhere hockey is played. But they are definitely used in my corner of the hockeyverse.
Dash - I’m not pulling nearly as many hot supermodels now that I’m a dash eight on the season - hockey slang for minus, as in the wrong side of the plus/minus stat for scores against your team
Dub - short for W, or a win in hockey jargon
Zip, Nothing - variations of saying zero in a score. It’s already two nothing for the home team, and this goal would make it three zip before the end of the first period.
Stage - an unpaid internship in a restaurant kitchen. It’s pronounced stah-j , not stAge , and it comes from the French word stagiaire which means trainee or apprentice.
