Page 58 of The Fake Husband Deal
“At the conference in Atlanta, you commanded a room full of strangers. You were confident and self-assured. Why are you so nervous today?”
He shrugged. “I don’t want to fail West and Drew.”
I understood him now. For Noah, these were the highest stakes. The man who barely batted an eyelid at getting married put more pressure on himself to perform in his area of expertise because he couldn’t bear the thought of letting anyone down.
I wrapped my arm around his shoulders and pulled him close. He wasn’t alone in this, and I’d make sure he knew that.
“Lior, how great to see you here.”
I doubted that. I winked at Noah and turned to face one of my dad’s business partners. It was show time.
Noah held out his hand. “Good evening. I’m Noah Spencer. Lior’s husband.”
Disapproval gleamed in his eyes as he took Noah’s hand.
“Noah, this is Anderson Getty. He’s on our board, overseeing the international division for houseware products.”
“Very nice meeting you, Mr. Getty.”
“Likewise, Mr. Spencer. How’s married life treating you?”
Noah leaned into me with an adoring gaze that would melt the coldest of hearts, just not Getty’s. “It’s the best thing that’s happened to us. When you meet the love of your life, everything just falls into place. You know how it is.”
I bit my tongue. Getty didn’t know how it was because he was currently divorcing his fourth wife.
“Well, I look forward to seeing you two at the next meeting.”
He dipped his head in a quick nod and left.
“He had a bad aura,” Noah said.
I almost doubled over in laughter. “Is that Noah speak for,he’s a spineless dickwaffle?”
“And then some. What’s this about a meeting?”
It was our turn at the bar, and I ordered us drinks. There were several standing tables nearby, so I set the drinks on one and turned to Noah. “I didn’t want to tell you until after tonight. The meeting with the partners when I announced our wedding didn’t go too well. They demanded to reconvene the meeting to include my dad’s attorney and you. They want to meet you.”
Noah’s eyes widened. “Do they think we’re faking it?”
“Possibly.”
“What do they want? For you to bend me over the conference table and fuck me right there?”
I tucked his chin between my thumb and pointer finger and tilted his head up a little. “Now you’re giving me ideas.”
“And you’re making more promises. One day, I’m going to collect them all in one go.”
“We’d need a week.”
“I’m due some vacation time, and we haven’t had a honeymoon.”
His eyes held mine hostage, daring me to break first.
“Lior, darling.” Pierce’s voice cut through us like a sharp knife.
My heart sank when I turned to him. My eyes landed on Cara and John McMartin, who were by his side.
He took a step forward and gave me an over-the-top kiss on the cheek.
