Lior turned to the room. “I want to close this meeting. My secretary will be in touch with a date for us to meet to discuss the future of the company, which does not include Anderson Getty. I would like you to consider Mr. Pierce Dellcourt to take the future vacant position left by Anderson Getty.”
The partners agreed to continue the meeting another time and, one by one, left the room, stopping to congratulate Lior and shake my hand. Some even apologized that we had to go through the ordeal Getty put us through.
Pierce stood rooted to his seat.
“You okay?” I asked.
He stared at me. “I have a confession to make. What I told you about Lior cheating was a lie.”
“I know. Lior would never do that. But thank you for telling the truth.” I left him and joined Lior because I didn’t know how to process that a lot of my feelings of guilt about the situation had stemmed from the conversation with Pierce. But now he’d come through with some really vital information.
Pierce remained in his place and didn’t say a word until everyone was gone.
“Lior, are you insane? Putting me up for partner?”
Lior looked at me. “I’m not insane, but I’m in love, and I’ve been told repeatedly by the wisest woman I know that having someone to love is more important than anything in life.”
I hugged him tight. “Love you too, Lioreo.”
“Are you sure you want me around?” Pierce asked.
“Who else is going to snitch to my mom when I miss lunch breaks?”
“This is true.” Pierce stood and held his hand out to Lior. “Looking forward to working with you, boss.”
Lior scrunched his face.
“I’m not calling you sir.”
“You can call him Lior,” I interjected.
Pierce laughed. “You’re growing on me.”
I leaned closer to Lior. “Meh, I could learn to tolerate you.”
“God, you two are going to become best friends, aren’t you?” Lior groaned.
I wasn’t sure about that, but I was glad to be on okay terms with Pierce, especially if he was going to end up working with Lior.
Pierce left, taking Mathilda with him, which meant I was alone with my husband again.
“That took too long,” Lior said.
“Getty’s face almost exploded.”
We stared into each other’s eyes, smiling.
“What do we do now?” I asked.
Lior cradled my face in his hands, his thumbs caressing my cheeks. “I’d like to take my husband home and show him exactly how much I’ve missed him. Would that be okay with you?”
“Meh, I guess.”
“I could turn my computer back on. There’s a bunch of reports with my name on them. It’ll take me days to go through them all.”
I grabbed his hand and dragged him out. “Come on, we have places to be, asses to fuck, and this time we’re using the goddam bed. I didn’t buy the best mattress in the store for nothing.”
He laughed but followed me out.
