“In sickness and in health. Having regular sex is healthy.”

I gave him a cursory glance. “If our sex life is any more regular, we’ll need to check into therapy.”

“What can I do? Stop being so goddamn addictive, and I might take a break. You could try being bad at sex, you know?”

I cradled his neck and brought him in for a kiss.

“Not in my nature, Mr. Spencer, but not in my parents’ home. This is an old house, and everything creaks.”

“Fine,” he sighed. “Then take me to bed and cuddle me to sleep.”

“I can do that.”

“Go, Hannah!” Remi shouted from the bench as she dribbled the basketball a few times and took a shot straight into the hoop.

He jumped up, whistling.

“Well done,” I said to her. “You can be on my team any time.”

She smiled, pushing her long braid behind her back.

“Thank you, Noah.”

There was no time to celebrate because Joel was right on it. He stole the ball from Alma and then passed it to West, who was way ahead of the rest of us.

Before our defense could get to him, he passed the ball to Avi, who scored another point for the other team.

Remi blew the whistle for break time.

“This is so much fun,” Hannah said as we walked to the benches.

“I’m glad you can join us. The guys needed some friendly competition.”

She laughed. “You mean someone to put them in their place?”

“That too.”

She jogged up to the refreshments table and joined Remi.

“Those two are getting cozy,” Alma said.

“They’re cute.”

“All you see is love hearts now that you have a new man. At least her foster parents are here, so we can tag team. I can coach kids, but I’m not good with teenage hormonal breakups.”

I bumped her shoulder. “You don’t remember how it was? You never wrote Alma hearts Brad Pitt in your schoolbooks?”

She snorted. “Big difference. Brad never broke up with me.”

Someone caught my attention on the other side of the fence.

“Hey, are you Noah Spencer?” the man asked.

I approached the fence. “Yes, and you are?”
