"Are you ready, love?" I knocked, opening the steam-filled bathroom. "You've been in there for hours."
Ember jumped as she turned to look at me, her body covered in a luxurious robe as she put in her earrings. "Goddess, Theo!" she groaned. "I hate when you scare me like that."
"Couldn't catch my scent over all the steam, huh?" I slipped my hands around her waist, placing a delicate kiss on her mating mark. "Or were you just deep in thought about last night's activities?"
Ember turned, slipping her hands around my neck, purring seductively. "I think you're the one who can't stop thinking about last night, Alpha." She winked.
I groaned, gripping her waist to pull her in further, the contact igniting our skin. "Do we have to go visit your parents today? I think they would understand if we couldn't come."
"My parents are dying to see you again, Theo." Ember got on her toes, pecking my cheek. "They absolutely adore you. Trust me, it means so much to them when you come and visit."
I sighed, shaking my head. "Your parents love the fact that you're mated to an Alpha. The Alpha Stormblade to be precise. It was practically all they could talk about when we first met."
"Oh come on, Theo- "Ember rolled her eyes, as she returned to the mirror, and grabbed her necklace off the counter. "You know that's not true."
"Oh really?" I scoffed, grabbing the necklace to help her put it on. "So, how come your dad couldn't stop talking about how strong my warriors were, how built up our military is, or how many rogues we had taken into custody in the last month?"
"-Or how your mom kept mentioning that we have one of the biggest, most elaborate, expensive, luxurious, mansions, she's ever seen?" I clasped her necklace. "And don't even get me started on her asking me about how many cars I have."
"Oh come on, they were just giving you a compliment!" Ember took off her robe, exposing her naked body, as she walked to the closet to change. "They are from riches themselves, Theo. Don't take it the wrong way."
Ember came out of the closet a moment later in a pair of black jeans and a sparkly top with a pair of black knee-high boots to top off her outfit. "Alright, I'm ready."
"You look beautiful, mate." I purred, reaching out to grab her hand and kiss it. "As usual."
Ember giggled, as we headed out of our suite to the pack commons to greet the pack, hand in hand. "Good morning, Alpha, Luna." A group of maids bowed, their faces beaming as they passed us with their cleaning carts.
"Good morning." We said in unison, returning their greeting, as we made our way to the pack commons, waving and acknowledging the bows of our passing pack members.
"Oh hello, sweetheart!" Mom beamed when she caught sight of us from where she was sitting, playing with a group of small children. "Where are you two off today to today?"
Ember gave Mom a huge hug, which she happily returned, as the children cheered, happy now, that they had two Lunas to play with them. "We are going to visit Ember's parents at Lunar," I said, as a little boy and girl started climbing into Ember's lap.
"Oh, well- "Mom giggled at the children in Ember's lap. "That is if you can leave now."
Ember looked up at me, her eyes sparking as she played with them. "This would be our reality if we had pups, Theo. Wouldn't that be amazing?"
I smiled, watching as Ember gently rocked one of the children, soothing him to sleep. "You would be such a good mother, love."
"She's already a great Luna," Mom piped in, rubbing Ember's back. "Dad and I are proud to pass down our titles to you both, and one day, we know that you will feel the same way with your pups when you pass down your titles to them."
"Alpha!" A hard rock hit my head. "Alpha- "the voice trailed off, singing in an annoying acapella.
The force kept getting harder, and as it did, the feeling in my hands and feet began to tingle, bringing me back to reality. I lifted my head, my neck sore from where I now realized where it was, on my desk.
I blinked, before suddenly, another rock hit me square between my eyes. "I can keep doing this all day, honestly, it's kind of fun." Boris' annoying voice laughed, as another rock hit my face.
"Fuck, Boris- "I growled, making the walls shake from my anger. I was irritated that Boris woke me up from a good dream, one where Ember was alive. "How long have you been sitting there throwing rocks at me?"
"Geez, Alpha." Boris leaned back on the couch, a handful of tiny rocks in his hand. "Way to greet your Beta. I know I'm sexy and all, but you don't have to growl every time you see me." He rolled his eyes.
I groaned, throwing my hands in my hair. "Goddess, Boris. You are getting on my last nerve. If you weren't my Beta, I would have locked you in the cells by now, just for how much you annoy me."
"Whatever- "Boris slapped his knees, standing up. "I didn't come here to chit-chat, anyways. I came here to give you some good news."
My eyes widened, my wolf wagging his tail in anticipation. "Well, spit it out. I don't have all day. I have a lot of work to do." I cleared my throat, my wolf whining at my response to Boris. He wanted us to be more excited.
Boris sighed, shaking his head in pure disgust. "I swear you are never happy about anything-"he whispered under his breath, before digging in his pocket, pulling out a white stick, and slapping it down in front of me on the desk. "But, you should be about this."
My breathing stopped as I looked down at what Boris put in front of me, carefully studying it. "Congratulations, Alpha." Boris crossed his arms, taking a deep breath. "Millie's pregnant."
My breathing hitched in my throat, as my wolf danced in happiness at the two lines in front of us. He couldn't believe it. That we would be having a pup, that we would finally be a father.
"I'll get out of your hair now- "Boris put his hands in his pockets, as he headed over to the door. "There's no need to visit Millie anymore. I'll take care of everything."
I stared at the lines as Boris opened the door to leave, not realizing what was happening.
I was so happy; my wolf was practically ready to break free and run to the rose garden to start working on his nest. He daydreamed about his pup, how he would care for him, play with him, and train him to be an Alpha.
He was elated.
"Wait!" I stood, making Boris top in his tracks. "Um- "I stumbled, not even knowing what I wanted to say.
"Yes?"
"Where are you going?" I finally mustered out, nervously.
Boris scoffed, letting out a breath. "The doctor is coming today to take Millie's blood and start running some tests. Get the room ready so they can monitor her, all that."
My wolf banged at my chest, eager to know more. "Will you let me know the results of the test?" I asked nervously.
Boris nodded. "I'll let you know anything you need to know about."
I nodded, as Boris waited in the doorway. I didn't really want him to leave and go to Millie. I felt a new feeling rising in my chest, one that I did not want to acknowledge.
"I will join you for the doctor's visit," I decided, going to grab my keys to lock my office.
"Oh hell no," Boris scoffed, holding out his arm to stop me. "What in the moon goddess makes you think you can do that? Didn't I make it clear to you the other day that I'm handling it?"
"I should be allowed near my pup," I growled, my eyes turning black. "I don't care what you think."
"You're pup-" Boris growled, his eyes also turning black, "is being carried by Millie in case you forgot. I know you are an asshole, but you couldn't even be kind to the mother of your pup. The best thing you can do is stay away and make this experience as stress-free for her as possible."
I opened my mouth to retaliate against my Beta, but before I could, he snuck out the door, trying to shut it on me. "Ugh!" I clenched my fists, following behind him, up the stairs. "Damn it, Boris!"
Before I could reach him, a strong held me back. "Stop it, Theo." A menacing rumble came from the arm. I knew this person had to be someone of my rank since they were able to hold me back from Boris, but I was too angry to look and see who.
I watched with red in my eyes as Boris ran up the stairs, not bothering to look back. He soon disappeared into a hallway, his scent merging with the wolves around him.
"Control your wolf," Dad ordered, placing his large hand on my shoulder. "Take some deep breaths."
I relaxed my shoulders as Boris' scent dissipated, taking deep breaths like Dad ordered. "Theo-"Dad commanded my attention. "As Alpha's, sometimes we don't like our Beta's orders. But he's right."
My eyes snapped open, my anger boiling. "Right, about what? Keeping me away from my pup? How could you say that, Dad?"
"As much as you don't like it- "Dad sighed, shaking his head. "And, I know, you really don't like it, Boris is protecting Millie. That's his role as a Beta. To protect his pack members, temporary or not, especially your pregnant female."
"Boris doesn't need to protect Millie from me." I groaned, getting mad.
Dad gripped my shoulder. "He feels like he does. That's normal, and the sign of a good beta as much as you don't like it." he nodded. "He cares about protecting your female and your offspring, even if it's from you."
