Chapter One

T he music thumps through my body as I sip my drink slowly. My limbs melting into the rhythm with ease. The simple swaying of my hips practically begging for a woman’s body to move against. Someone to grind with on the dance floor in the living room of the party I’m at.

Friends dragged me out of my bed to come to this damn thing with them in hopes of making me get over my ex. Cause what better way than to get back out there and find a rebound chick? That’s super healthy. Nothing better than covering up drama with more shit. Burying the world in alcohol and sex.

Yet, here I am. Out in the world full of people as they drink heavily and sway to the beats around us as if they will just fuck each other right in the living room floor.

Oh shit. My eyes drag toward the back corner and a man has some chick against a back wall and is fucking her into the shitty posters behind her head.

She’s so drunk I don’t think she even fucking cares. Her fingers curled on his shoulders as she hangs on. More power to ya, girlfriend. I raise my glass to hide the smile and avert my gaze from the couple.

“Come on, Kali!” My friend Audri, grabs my arm and drags me toward the dance floor.

I nearly spill what’s left of my drink as she pulls me into the crowd. Barely saving the alcohol from the abuse of the tiny little woman. A fae pixie with the spirit of an entire army. She has so much energy, and her pink hair bobs around her shoulders as she bounces from side to side.

I down the last of the cup and the toss it to the left where everyone’s cups landed when the music started.

It isn’t her mess to clean after this. The people pay a company to come in after their fucking epic parties the morning after.

So leave the shit where it lies and others will deal with it later.

It’s why people are willing to pay the cover charge to get in to their parties.

Audri grabs my arms and bounces enthusiastically around me as she drags me in circles. I can’t help but giggle as I watch her, so full of energy and life. It’s refreshing to watch someone enjoy themselves. And her attitude is infectious.

My smile grows with each bounce and sway of our hips and bodies.

The beat changes again and again as each song comes and goes.

The time passing us quickly as the world changes and spins with each moment.

I’m tired but something keeps me going as we dance and enjoy our time in the middle of the crowd.

Then I freeze.

The crowd parts only so slightly and a white haired woman catches my eye just as someone moves in front of me and I lose sight of the angel before me. Her white hair catches me off guard, but it was her eyes and lips that drew me in.

I leave Audri without a word and force my way through the crowd and off the dance floor.

By the time I make it to the last place I saw her, she’s gone.

Lost in the room filled with people. I search for the white hair in the dark room with zero luck.

Looking around I spot a chair to my left and climb up beside a couple that’s seated on the cushion.

They yell out a muttered “What the fuck!” and I ignore them as I seek the one thing that has my attention. That damn white hair. Where is she? The crowd surges as the song changes again and I look over each person quickly as lights flash and bodies move.

There…

A flash of white catches my eye as it enters the back kitchen. I jump off the chair and push my way through person after person and still only a moment in front of the doorway to straighten my clothes before adopting the most confident swagger that I can muster and step into the small space.

People are leaning on every surface imaginable. Others are pouring and grabbing drinks as they talk around the cozy, well lit area. I set my sight on the woman. A cup in her hands already and a group of friends surrounding her.

Fuck. She is one sexy angel. And that’s exactly what she is. An angel that has come straight from heaven. Only the devil herself could ever come close to loving an angel. Good thing I’m a demon with a penchant for disaster.

She’s dressed in a sweetheart neckline shirt that dips lower than any angel I know would wear. Her skirt is distractingly short. Both are the color of blood red. Chains hang from her skirt and her shit kicker boots are fucking fangtastic. The way she can place them babies on my shoulder any day.

Her body has just enough curves for me to grab onto her without her being too much for me to handle. Fuck, she is perfect. Her skin practically glows with an innocence that I want to defile with each passing second. It feels like the best and worst moment of my life.

The demon and the angel.

I saunter up to her little group, snagging a cup on my way by the counter. The fruity punch hits my lips as I take a sip. The alcohol giving me the ease of confidence as I wait for my chance to slide in next to her.

Leaning into her neck, just below her ear, she gasps as my breath graces along her skin. She doesn’t turn toward me but her breath stops dead in her chest as she waits. Her friends are all silent as they wait to see what I will do next.

With an evil grin I lean in until my lips graze along her ear with each whispered word.

“What is an angel doing at a party such as this? And how do I make it so she falls to her knees for me?”

The single line sends shivers and a sharp blush along her skin. My intended effect hitting her just where I want it to. What better way to get over my ex than with a gorgeous angel?

“Maybe not with lines like that.”

Her response makes me chuckle. Again, the intended effect I wanted is still alight on her skin. She’s noticed me. That’s all I wanted. Her friends turn away to talk but keep an eye on us.

“And yet, you’re still talking to me, so I will call that a win. What’s your name, angel?”

She sips her drink as she contemplates giving me what I want. Give me that name, sweetheart. I will make it worth your while. Just come on.

“Camael.”

“Kali. Such a beautiful name for a stunning woman. What brings you here tonight, Camael?”

“Friends wanted to come out to see what all the hype is about. I didn’t want to come and yet here I am.”

“Same. But now I have to thank all of them because here you are. Such a pretty little thing that I can corrupt tonight. Angels really shouldn’t come out to tempt the demons of the night.”

She gives me a pointed look and leans in to my ear so she won’t be overheard by her friends that are still close by.

“And what if I want to tempt those demons? What if I want you to take me home with you right this very second and show me how you will make me kneel like you suggested?”

WELL, FUCK ME.
