S he set her phone down and pulled her laptop over so she could run a quick search on Cal. It led her to his website and online portfolio.

He wasn’t just an artist—he was an artist .

From his webcomic, which had her belly laughing in a way she couldn’t ever remember doing as she worked her way from the first issue, to the other artwork he posted, much of it commissions.

Book covers, album covers—he was amazing.

There wasn’t a picture of him on there, though.

Just an adorable cartoon chibi depicting a man in chef’s clothes holding a paintbrush in one hand and a chef’s knife in the other.

Not even on his social media accounts was there a picture of him.

Maybe next time I’ll be able to eat in and get to meet him.

She hoped.

Not that it would lead to anything, she felt certain. But it’d be nice to make a friend with another connection to what had over the past couple of years become her favorite place in the world.
