Page 41 of Saving His Heart
“The first time I hugged you in your apartment, I couldn’t stop thinking you were the perfect size for me. I don’t know, Ems. It’s corny to say you were just my size, but that’s how it felt.”
I don’t embarrass easily, but admitting that to her has me wishing I had just jumped out of bed and left her to sleep.
“That’s … that’s actually really sweet, Preston.”
“Sweet enough to make like fabric softener?”
She throws her head back and laughs. Fuck me if my cock doesn’t twitch angrily below her as I watch her tits bounce.
“Make like fabric softener, and what? Snuggle?”
“Exactly.” In one quick movement, I roll, taking her with me. Grinding my dick into her belly, I say, “I know one part of me is more than eager to ‘snuggle’ with you again.”
“Oh my God. You’re ridiculous.” She’s laughing, but I sense she is also torn, so I back off and push myself to stand.
Leaning over, I give her a quick kiss on the cheek. “I’ll never force you to do anything you don’t want to, Ems. If you want ground rules, we’ll make ground rules. Whatever you want, okay?”
Her eyes get glassy, and I feel like I was sucker-punched. “Okay. Thank you, Preston.”
Unable to control myself, I lean in for a proper kiss, but I don’t allow myself to linger. “Anytime, Goldie. Anytime. I’ve got to get into the shower. Make yourself at home, but beware, GG is floating around here somewhere. I don’t think that woman ever sleeps, and you never know what the fuck is going to come out of her mouth.”
“Okay. Oh, do you know why she keeps calling me Miss. Fixem?”
Laughing, I tell her the truth, “None of us has any flipping clue about three-quarters of the shit that comes out of her mouth. But give her enough time, and I’m sure she’ll fill you in.” And, because she didn’t pull away last time, I lean in for one more chaste kiss. Listen, I’m still a guy. I’ll take whatever the hell I can get.
Chapter 16
Emory
Icrack open Preston’s bedroom door and am relieved to see that GG’s door is closed. Hopefully, that means she’s still sleeping, and I can have a few minutes alone to clear my thoughts with coffee. I need lots and lots of coffee.
“It’s about damn time, child. I’ve been waitin’ on yer asses for an hour.”
GG scares the shit out of me, and I almost trip over my own feet. Glancing around, I see her sitting at a little stool in the kitchen corner, looking out over the ocean.
“Don’t just stand there, Fixem. Grab yer coffee and come sit.”
Looking over both shoulders, I’m hoping someone else will appear. I’m not sure how to handle this kind of crazy.
“I’m talkin’ to you, now stop yer fits and come sit down.”
Okay, she is talking to me.Walking on autopilot, I go over, pour myself some coffee, then pull up a seat next to the old lady.
She reaches over and pats my knee gently. “It’s nice to see ya, Fixem. Now tell me, what’s your plan for old Broken-heart?”
Trying not to choke on my coffee, I decide it is best to set it down on the table. “Um, what do you mean, GG?”
“Don’t ya go GG’ing me, too. I know that boy’s heart is broken. I also know you’re the one who’s gonna bring his knight and shining armor. So, tell me, what’s your plan?”
“I think you have too much confidence in me,” I tell her honestly.
“And you don’t have enough, child. I saw your cards today, ya know. It will be a rough road, but you’ll come out exactly where ya should be. Those sisters need some of yer trust, too. You’ve raised ’em right. Now it’s time to let them fly. And you, my dear? You need to learn how to live for yourself. My Broken-heart’s goin’ to show you the way, just you wait and see.”
I don’t know how to answer any of that. How in the world does she even know about my sisters?
“Ladies? How’s it going in here?” Thank God Preston rounds the corner just in time.
“Oh, nothin’, Broken-heart. I’m just tellin’ Fixem here that you’re going to be just fine. It’s grumpy-growler and that dipshit, Loki, I have to worry ’bout now.”
