Page 18 of Saving His Heart
“Isn’t that interesting,” Lexi says. “Ems, looks like you have to drink.”
“Wait,” Julia interjects. “Lanie, when the hell did you have sex outside?”
Lanie blushes from head to toe. “When Dex took me out on the boat,” she tells the room on a hiccup.
“The first time you slept with Dex was outside?” Julia asks in amazement. “You lil’ hussy,” she laughs.
“Well, we didn’t have sex, have sex, but I came. That counts, doesn’t it?” Lanie asks seriously.
“We’ll give it to you,” Lexi says as the intercom rings.
“Oh good, food’s here,” Julia announces.
I silently thank God for his perfect timing. I don’t know how much I have drunk so far, but I’m a little tipsy.
Julia hands the doorman some cash, and he brings in three paper bags’ worth of food. She must notice my bulging eyes because she laughs and wraps her arm around me. “Girl’s nights, we order a little of everything, and with the amount of wine we drink, it is a good thing.”
I follow the others into the little galley kitchen and watch as everyone makes a plate. Once I have mine, I find they have rearranged the family room so we can sit around the oversized coffee table.
Lexi grabs her bottle of wine, “Cheers, ladies.” I have barely taken a sip when she looks right at Julia and says, “Never have I ever had a bedroom injury while doing something naughty.” Her evil grin tells me there is a story here, and damn if I don’t want to hear it.
“That was once. Okay, twice. Fuck it. Yes, I have a tendency to get a little excitable and head-butt Trevor. Sometimes. He has gotten excellent at bobbing and weaving during sexy-time now, though,” Julia says with a wink.
I laugh so hard I choke on my food. I honestly cannot remember the last time I had this much fun.
“Never have I ever had sex after prom.”
“Ah, I didn’t go to prom,” I say, beginning to slur.
“What do you mean? Everyone goes to prom. Even I went,” Lanie says as if that’s the magical scale of who does what.
I shrug my shoulders. “My sister, Eli, needed an orthodontist. We couldn’t afford it, so I used the little money I had saved for a dress on a down payment for her braces.”
“We need to fix that,” Lanie says seriously.
“Ah, I’m a little old for prom, but thanks.”
“Hmm—”
“No,” Julia and Lexi say together. “Whatever you’re thinking, Lanie, just let it go for tonight. We can take Ems to the prom another time.”
When I look at Lanie, I see she may have really been contemplating arranging a prom tonight. These girls are amazing human beings.
The questions keep coming, we keep drinking, and I keep laughing.
“Never have I ever done it more than three times in a day.”
“Never have I ever gone commando.”
“Never have I ever watched another couple get it on.”
“Never have I ever screwed around in an elevator.”
Minutes or hours later, I’m not sure, I turn to Lanie. “I fink next time she asked if I never had ever blacked out, I won’t have to drink,” I laugh.
Lanie cracks up, too, and is squeezing her legs together. “Don’t make me laugh. I’m gonna pee my pants,” she cries.
“You sounded funny,” I tell her.
