Page 113 of Saving His Heart
“Dexter?” I hear my sister call, and Preston cringes.
Eesh. What has she been doing now?
“Oh, hi, Ems! I was just looking for Dexter. I wanted to ask him another question,” she says, peering behind us and realizing the guys have left. “Shoot, did I miss him?”
“Yes,” Preston blurts, appearing uncomfortable.
“What, ah, what did you want to ask?” I’m terrified of her answer.
“Oh, just wondering what blue balls feel like. Lanie said he probably had them when he was in London.”
I choke, and Preston pats me on the back gently. “Why on earth are you asking Dexter about blue balls, and why is Lanie telling you that?”
“I asked her,” she says, shrugging her shoulders before turning back down the hall.
Oh no.
“Yeah. Apparently, she left Seattle before she finished her last book, so she’s collecting everyone’s love story. In very vivid detail, Emory. Blue balls and coming kind of detail.”
He sounds so freaked out, I almost laugh. Almost.
“Okay, I’ll talk to her. What’s been going on here?”
Preston fills me in on all the new details about Loki as I say hello and good-bye to everyone.
“Sloane? I’m just going to change, then we’ll be out,” I tell my sister, who is trying really hard to listen in on Seth’s conversation.
“That’s okay. I’m going to head downstairs now. I’ve got some writing to do,” she says with a grin.
Ugh. Please do not let her be writing Lanie and Dexter’s sexcapades.
I give her a quick kiss. “Okay. Love you. Did you have dinner?”
“I’m not a child, Ems. I can feed myself. Luvs,” she says over her shoulder.
Good grief, she has been hanging out with Lanie.
I’m almost to our bedroom door when Seth appears in the hallway. “We have another ping. We think this one came from his childhood home.”
“Shit,” Preston hisses.
“It’s okay. You go. I need to shower. I’ll find you when I’m done.”
“Our lives won’t always be like this, you know? I promise you, we will have dull, married-couple days, too.” Leaning in for a kiss, he whispers, “We’ll also have hot, animalistic sex days. Very, very soon.”
I glance down and see his words affect him just as much as they do me. I smile shamelessly. “I hope so.”
“Fuck me.”
I can’t help but laugh at his pained expression. “Go, I’ll be out soon.”
“Okay. Emory?”
“Yeah?”
“I love you forever.” I see it in his face. He means that with every fiber of his being.
“I love you, too, Preston. Always.”
