I nodded. “You handling the food ok?” I asked. “Nausea letting you enjoy it?”
“Yeah. The morning sickness finally seems to be settling down, and everything’s delicious.”
“Good.”
My arm tightened around him, and he sighed against me.
“No offense,” he said after a minute. “But it’s nice to be at a party where your mama isn’t around.”
I burst into laughter. “No worries. Mama is… a lot.”
“Is she giving you grief since I announced my pregnancy?”
I let out a long breath. “Of course. Every phone call she asks if I’ve found an omega to settle down with yet.”
He winced. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. You’re happy! I can see that. Don’t regret your happiness because Mama doesn’t know how to keep her nose out of everybody else’s business.”
“I want you to be happy too.”
I chuckled. “I’ll get there, Bug. Don’t worry.”
He smiled and closed his eyes, relaxing against me.
Another set of footsteps, and Micah appeared in front of us—dressed in a shimmery silver top and skinny jeans. “So… no offense, Ryan,” he started, sitting in the chair beside us. “But it’s weird being at a non-work party with the bosses.”
Ryan opened his eyes and chuckled. “None taken. You handling it ok?”
Micah shrugged. “Trying not to think too much about it.”
“Makes sense.”
Micah motioned to us. “What’s this about?”
I blinked, then realized he meant how Ryan was in my lap. “It’s just how we are. We’ve been close like this since we were kids.”
“Owen’s comfortable,” Ryan stated.
“Huh…” Micah replied. “Well… whatever floats your boat I guess.”
“Micah!”
We both turned to see Terry waving to him.
“Yeah?” Micah called back.
“Can you get me another platter from the kitchen?”
“Sure”
Micah rushed off, and Ryan breathed a sigh of relief. “He’s not the only one it’s weird for.”
I chuckled. “Sorry.”
“It’s ok.”
I was about to suggest going downstairs again—where I knew Ryan would be able to relax—when the sound of angry voices caught my attention.
