Chapter 44

Eoghan

C oming home was bittersweet. Emmy was still so damn sick, even after a full day of me being home and I was missing out on crucial team bonding.

Although, I'd gotten lots of messages checking in on me from the guys, which was nice. I was glad that Scuba failed at his attempt to find a place to get chicken noodle soup delivered since it would have been difficult to explain why no one brought the food inside.

Emmy still had no energy, and I went through most of the restorative that Logan picked up for me. It was helping her, but at a much slower pace.

I needed Emmy to get better before the full moon. The plan was to send me on the plane back to Europe during that full moon since it would be the best way to get me back to the team after getting healthy again. Not that I really wanted to spend the night stuck as a wolf in the middle of the sky, but it was what I needed to do.

If we didn't get healthy by the full moon, there was a solid chance we would need to figure out a way for us to stay close to avoid a relapse in blood sickness.

Emmy moaned from the bed, causing me to grab the medicinal Stanley Cup and dash upstairs.

I scooped her up into my arms. "Come on baby, drink this."

She complied with my request. She'd gotten a lot better at not gagging on the tart liquid. After she swallowed her sips, she said, "You know this could be so much better with a little bit of Jamieson."

I chuckled. "I know, but the magic won't work, and I just want to see you cured. Although, there's a chance some grenadine might make it taste better."

She smiled. "That would work too, and so much better for our sobriety."

"Want me to ask the experts about trying to get a better tasting one? We need to get a new batch, anyway."

She shrugged, although the way her eyes lit up when I mentioned the cherry syrup meant I had to ask about it.

Her eyes fluttered asleep again. I held her close until her heartbeat slowed for a bit.

After extracting myself from the bedroom, I walked downstairs and decided it was time to make a phone call that kind of scared me. It was time to call the pack's living expert on blood sickness.

Only downside, it was Kirby Blades, who was the pack's second in command. Despite him being a genuinely nice guy, he scared my wolf.

After a few rings, Kirby picked up the phone and said, "Yello."

"Hi, Mr…"

Kirby cut me off before I could say anything else. "I know you want to show your respect, but calling me anything but Kirby is just going to annoy me. Mr. Blades is my father. So, what can I do for you? Are you doing okay?"

"I'm okay, but Emmy seems like she's still a day or two behind me. But I thought with blood sickness, it strikes men harder than the women."

"Emmy's still human, right?"

I nodded my head before I remembered to speak aloud, since Kirby couldn't see me across a phone line. "Yes, she's human."

"So that's not unexpected. It took me about four days to be up and running again with blood sickness. With a human's weaker immune system, she's going to be about the same amount of time if not more."

I didn't even think about her being human as a factor. But he was right. She was at a disadvantage for quick recovery.

The other thing was the idea that it might be after the full moon before she was truly healthy.

"Shit, I'm supposed to go back to Munich and if she's not healthy..."

"You need to bring her along with you for this trip. With the full moon, you guys should be out of the extreme danger of blood sickness. How are you doing with the restorative supply? Do you need me to bring more of that over when I arrive in Vancouver tomorrow?"

"I need more, but we hoped that Lottie or Dino could make a sweeter blend. Maybe by adding a dash of grenadine to it."

That got a chuckle from Kirby. "No way in hell Lottie's going to mess with her mum's and granny's recipe. Talk with Dino and see what he thinks. He might know a work around, but I wouldn't mess with the formula at all. It worked for me, and you know just how difficult treating blood sickness can be."

He was right. What I didn't show Emmy when we were at the library was just how few people my great granddad could heal. He made the connection that mates had to be close to each other during their first month, but not how to treat them. Granted, great granddad refused to do any of the old ways or more magical healings. He only wanted to do things that could be proven with science and easily repeated.

"Yeah."

Kirby said, "It'd be easier if Lottie makes the new supply."

"That's fine. I'll take anything. I just want my girl better. I hate how much she's still sleeping when I'm feeling much better."

Kirby said, "You'll both be up and about in no time. Just dote on her until then."

Deep down, I knew Kirby was right. I just needed to show her how much I loved her until then.

Besides, if I didn't keep showing her my love, I would likely do something really stupid. I didn't need to do anything like that.

"Will do. I'll see you in the morning."
