Chapter 41
Eoghan
T he moment that I landed in Munich, I felt like utter shit. It wasn't the normal yuck from taking Ambien. Granted, I only got half of my normal dose of Ambien since the Legacy didn't know my metabolism worked a lot faster than the rest of the guys. So when I didn't wake until we were landing, I knew things were going wrong.
I was exhausted, had a fever, and there was a pain coming from my chest.
Thanks to my grandfather's diaries, I knew the symptoms to be blood sickness.
Fuck.
How could I be so careless?
Well, I knew how Emmy and I finally sealed our mating bond. We had enough sex for it to happen, but I'd given up on the seal happening.
Things felt so easy and so perfect lately. But I couldn't tell you when things shifted.
It was why my heart was breaking at the thought of leaving the country without her.
I called her to confirm my suspicions and hoped that we had some help on the way. When she didn't call Logan, I knew I had to act.
I felt like an ass hanging up on her, but we needed to act quickly. Since she didn't take the initiative, I had to. If only to save her from the worst of the sickness.
Since I was being ushered off the team bus and into my hotel room, I couldn't really talk openly with Logan. So I did the next best thing.
SOS. Blood sick
Scuba clapped my shoulder and stared at me. "Looking green. Everything is all right?"
I didn’t want to make the guys worry. If we could get either Emmy or myself on a flight to see each other, I would bounce back fairly quickly.
"Just nauseous. It's nothing."
As we got off the bus, my knees buckled. I would have fallen flat out on my ass if it wasn't for Suzuki catching me. "Easy there, big guy."
Fuck. I needed to get to my room quickly and get on the horn with Logan. If I couldn't get a hold of him, then I would call Paddy, but that could be trickier to coordinate things.
I stood up and grabbed my stuff from under the bus. But unlike most of the guys, I hunched over my stuff as I waited for my room assignment.
Scuba, Suzuki, and Carmichael stared at me. It might have been just my imagination, but I was sure they were trying to decide if I got drunk or, even worse, took too much Ambien while on the flight.
Cartsy broke the silence, "Not going to fall over on us, are you?"
I shook my head. While I felt like shit, I didn't think my knees would buckle on me. Again.
Cartsy did a silent nod to the other two, and they flanked me. I actually appreciated it since my knees buckled and having Suzuki and Scuba hold me up while Cartsy rolled our shit through the lobby.
After Cartsy punched the up button, the pressure within my chest caused me to cough. He looked at me. "You better get some sleep."
After a coughing fit, I croaked out. "That's the plan."
I was so damn grateful that my room was right by the elevator. Placing my key against the door, I went inside. I immediately locked the door and went over to the bed. I didn't let myself get sucked into sleep. No, I needed to make sure we had a plan to fight the blood sickness.
I called Logan. He picked up immediately. "I need you to get ready for the flight back to Vancouver."
Wait, what?
With the upcoming season, I just assumed that Emmy would come to me. "I'm flying back?"
"Yeah. Between Emmy not picking up the phone and the private jet being in Munich. It just makes sense for you to return to Vancouver."
Shit, hearing that Emmy wasn't picking up the phone, I was scared for her safety. I couldn't lose such a big piece of my heart. If that meant that I had to go back to where I was at, I would do it.
"Won't the guys notice that I'm gone?"
"Well, Cartsy and coach already called Fitzy and Dad to let them know that you're sick. Easy enough to have you holed up in the hotel away from everyone for a couple of days."
That didn't sound too bad. I coughed again while I forced myself to sit up so I wouldn't fall asleep, but I struggled to stay awake and form words.
"Kay."
To be away from the guys for a couple of days would be okay. At first, I was going to ask why it was only a couple days and then I realized the full moon was in three days and our game was the day after the full moon. Management wanted to give us plenty of time to adjust to the time change and international ice size.
"You can leave your stuff there since, if all things work out, you'll be playing on Thursday. Meet you in the lobby in five minutes."
That surprised me. It’s not like he traveled with his dad on the plane with us. How did he get to Munich? Oh, the private plane was here and the team was on a charter one. But I was too sick really care about those logistics.
Knowing that it might take me the whole time to get downstairs, I grabbed my backpack and made my way to the lobby.
It surprised me that Logan was already in the lobby and was talking on the phone. "Yeah. I'll make a stop there just in case. Just speak to her family to make sure they're ready so we can just take off."
Logan ushered me to the chair. While I felt like shit, I didn't need that much help, but I was too tired to fight it.
Instead, I tried to call Emmy to let her know I was on my way home. But sadly, I just hit her voicemail. I just hoped she was sleeping.
Suzuki came into the lobby. He stared at me. "What are you doing out of bed?"
Logan took the initiative. "Taking him to the doctor."
"Feel better, but I got to go." Suzuki shrugged his shoulders and headed out the doors. I wondered what he was up to since we didn't have practice for a little bit. Then I remembered some of the PR guys had things scheduled for the fan favorites. Hell, they had me slated for a trip to the local castle and the St. Charles bridge in Prague.
