Chapter 43

Emmy

I slept like the dead. It felt like all my energy was being zapped out of a broken heart. It didn't make any sense since things were good with Eoghan and myself.

I was woken from my stupor by Eoghan's voice.

Help is on the way. I just landed. I'm coming straight to you.

That felt so weird. I forced my eyes open to see him, but he wasn't there. I reached over for my phone since maybe I threw him on speakerphone while in my sleep, despite not hearing the ring.

I couldn't find it. It wasn't within arm's reach, so I was confused as all hell.

In my dreams, I thought I talked to him telepathically, but it was just a dream.

Unless it wasn't a dream. But how?

First he was a freaking werewolf, and now he could talk to me telepathically.

Also, why would Eoghan be on his way? Didn't he have some hockey to play?

I'm hallucinating . That makes more sense. I'm sick as a dog, so it has to be that .

Which only meant one thing— I needed more sleep. Eventually, I should get something to eat. If my phone didn't feel so far away, I would DoorDash some food.

My eyes fluttered shut, and I drifted back to sleep rather quickly.

Minutes later, rough callouses pulled me up into a sitting position. A cup was thrusted into my face. A rough voice said, "Come on, baby. I need you to drink this."

Eoghan, he was here. My heart felt fuller just by his presence.

He kept nudging the drink to my lips. I eventually took a sip and instantly gagged. It was so damn bitter. I wasn't even sure if anything made it into my body since I coughed so hard.

"I know it's bitter, but you got to drink it. It's going to help you."

Listening to Eoghan's voice, I tried to drink the stuff again. I still gagged, but this time I felt it go down my throat.

Eoghan kissed my forehead. That felt like the best tonic ever. Definitely better than that crappy liquid he was giving me.

"Are you really here?"

He cupped my chin and placed a kiss on my lips. I missed the taste of his lips in the hours that he was away. As much as I wanted to keep kissing him, I was still utterly exhausted. Everything just melted into his sturdy body.

"I hope that kiss answered your question about being here."

I just fell asleep in his arms. There was nothing quite like being cuddled in his arms to fill my heart.
