Chapter 29

Emmy

R eturning to Minneapolis was like seeing a more vibrant Eoghan. Before, you would see these flashes of his personality. He was so open and honest, but as quickly as they would come out, he would button himself back up.

The greeting at the airport just showed how much his friends and former teammates loved him. One thing that I had never noticed until today was how many Wild players had that same distinct silver eye color as Eoghan, which I thought was so unusual.

The drive from the airport was longer than I expected. He lived out in the suburbs in a very woodsy area. It was lush and idyllic. There were houses of various sizes. It was clear there wasn't a normal HOA trying to control the look and scheme of things.

After pulling into the driveway, Eoghan pulled on the parking brake and reached for my hand. "I tried to tell the guys not to do any runs near the backyard. If anyone upsets or scares you, they will have to hell to pay. Just say the word."

He didn't need to do that. Yes, wolves still freaked me out, but I was the guest in their land. It seemed unrealistic that they would all stay away from their own homes, especially after he explained parents would sometimes stay close to their homes to watch their kids.

"You didn't need to do that."

His head touched my forehead, and he smiled. "Yes, I did. You're my mate and I'll do anything for you. So chasing off a few wolves, no big deal. Besides, this is normal behavior for mates. Hell, there are days when Logan gets pissy if you even look at his fiancée."

It just seemed so absurd, and I never really noticed that he was possessive. Sure, he was always touchy feely when we were out in public. Until today, I never really thought about him doing that to claim me.

I let my hand go up to his cheek and gave him a kiss before I said, "So you're saying all werewolves turn into cavemen when it comes to women?"

That rewarded me with his deep throaty chuckle that I adored. He lifted his hand and gave it a kiss. "Yes. I've felt the same way since we met, but I try to keep it in check."

Eoghan was the best guy. I already knew that. But seeing how much he loved showing me off to his friends when we walked through the airport was refreshing. He claimed me as his mate (although we had no clue if we sealed the bond) and I hoped that would be enough for his pack.

I much rather have affection out in the open than to be kept as a secret. My ex who brought me to Canada wouldn't do anything in public or give me the time of day.

I flashed him a white smile, "You do a good job. I had no clue you were that way. But don't do it just for me, be yourself."

"With you by my side, it's easy for me to be myself, and it's for both of us."

That was sweet to hear. Since we started dating, I'd enjoyed my time with him. He kept showing me new and endearing sides to him.

"Let's get inside before the neighbors start to gossip or worse, try to watch."

"They wouldn't." I said with a laugh, but he hopped out of the SUV so quickly that I wasn't so sure it wasn't a joke. He opened my car door and carried me into his house.
