Chapter 3
Reid
Laying in his bed alone, two weeks after he had kissed Mila for the first time, wasn’t easy and damn it all to hell, he wanted her in the bed with him.
She was his girl and the possessiveness and love in her eyes when she looked at him showed him just what he needed to know, and he loved that she wasn’t afraid to show it.
He was just thinking of her when his phone rang, and he reached down to see who it was. It was Kian.
“Reid, Isabelle woke up. I am on my way there to see her.”
He sat up, shocked to hear that news, “Will you call me if you can when you get there?”
Kian agreed and Reid wished that he was going along.
He knew he needed to buckle down and do what was necessary to get his physical therapy done.
He couldn’t just sit around and not get better.
He had to get back out there, so he went to the gym that Brent had in the house.
He took off his sling and knew he needed to not hurt his injury by pushing too hard.
He did all the exercises he was required to do and some of his own, he had to rebuild some of the muscles he lost during his hospitalization.
Thankfully it wasn’t too much muscle loss. As he went through his workout, he thought about everything that had happened as a cop in the past and the last few months.
And then, Nikolai popped into his head and Reid grunted through the next rep he was doing.
He put the bar down and took a breath. He needed to stop this, but he didn’t know how.
He had to get Nikolai out of his mind, and damn it all, he would.
He finished his reps, and then went back to his room, determined to shower without anyone’s help any more.
After his dad left, Brent offered to help and it was unmanning.
Having someone help you shower was the most uncomfortable thing.
Thankfully Brent only had to help him wash his hair and Reid always put a dark towel over his crotch.
He definitely didn’t need help with that.
He took his time getting wet, getting soaped up where he could and with one hand, and when it was time for his hair, it wasn’t easy, getting the damn soap in his eye more than once, but he was able to accomplish it.
He wanted to laugh at the silliness of it, just taking a shower by himself, but to him it was a big deal.
He got dressed by himself and he brushed the dirty blonde hair out of his eyes.
A knock sounded on the door and he was trying to put the sling back on and he called out to whoever it was.
Mila peeked her head in again, and he grinned when she saw him.
She walked in and saw that he was struggling with his sling, “Can I help you? That is what your ma asked me to do after all.”
He laughed, “She sure did. I just wanted to try to do it myself. You can’t help me doing everything.”
“I need to. You have to be careful with your shoulder.”
