Glory was laughing again. “Oh, wow.”
Jarret carried me up the steps.
“Hurry!” I exclaimed.
“Talk about a stick of dynamite,” Jarret grumbled. “You, young lady, are too much.”
I didn’t answer. I now did not care a whit about what he thought. I kept gazing around looking for any sign of Redemption.
“He’s in the second bedroom right there.” Ma pointed.
Jarret carried me to the open door. A man was tearing my shirt material off of Redemption's shoulder while saying, “Whoever tied this, did a good job. He was bleeding too much.”
I tried to get Jarret to put me down.
“Stop fussing, would ya?” Jarret griped as he carried me to the bed next to Redemption's and set me down.
I immediately sat up, then regretted it as the room spun around me.
The man with Redemption looked up at me. “That cut looks bad.”
I shook my head then winced and grabbed it with my hands. “Never mind that. You just work on him.”
“You’d better do what she says, Legend.”
The man snapped his head up and looked over at who said this. “Glory?” He swallowed heavily and stared at her. “Are you hurt?”
“I’m fine.” Shaking her head, she motioned to her brother. “Please help him, okay?”
He nodded and swung his gaze down to Redemption again. “It looks like it went straight through.”
“What does that mean?” I asked.
“It went out the other side, so I don’t have to dig out a bullet. And that is a good thing. I can stitch it up after I get it cleaned and put some antibiotic ointment on it.”
“S-so he’s gonna be all right?” I asked.
“He looks a bit pallid,” he replied. “But that’s from blood loss.”
“I-I can give him blood, if that will help,” I offered.
Legend stared at me. “No. For one, he has to have his blood type and secondly, you are in no shape.”
“Listen to him, Joanna. He’s a doctor, or so he claims.” Redemption chuckled then coughed.
At his coughing, I got up and tried to get over to his bed.
“Damnit girl!” Jarret caught me as I fell. “What in the hell is wrong with you?”
I let out a breath.
“Bring her over Dad, or she will try again,” Redemption said in a weak voice.
His father looked disgusted as he did what he said and set me down on the side of the mattress.
“So, are they okay?” Ma asked as she came in with towels and a pan of steaming water.
“They’ll live, I think,” Legend replied as he gave her a nod.
