Page 40 of Redemption
“Wait…” Redemption said. “He was at this club last night?”
Nodding her head, she replied, “Yes.”
“Is he there often?” Prophet asked her.
She shrugged. “On Saturday nights usually.”
“Well, fuck,” Redemption muttered.
A knock came on the van door and we all jumped.
Redemption and Prophet had their weapons out instantly, aiming them at the door.
Jewel and I just stared at them then at each other.
“It’s Talon,” a voice called out.
Redemption turned and slid the door open.
“Get up the road, man.” Talon looked inside and around, his gaze pausing on the two men in the back.
“One of them is just injured,” Redemption told him.
Talon nodded. “Good, we’ll give him to Liv.” He looked over at Jewel.
“Um, I went to her place,” I explained to Talon. “They grabbed her too.”
“Well, she has to go to the ranch too then,” he stated.
I gazed over at Jewel, she looked scared but she nodded. I felt so bad for dragging her into this. How many mistakes could I make in one lifetime?
“My men have the bikes, let’s roll.” Talon slid the door closed.
Prophet started the van up. “It’s got plenty of gas.” He nodded at the panel dash.
Jewel jumped into the front seat and slid down, so she wouldn’t be seen.
Prophet shook his head at her and drove out of the alley. “We’ve got the Rebel Saints as escorts, girl. No worries.”
Jewel scoffed. “I don’t care. That psycho bitch has eyes all over.”
He looked back at the road. “The woman needs a lethal injection with no funeral.”
“Amen to that!” Jewel agreed.
The ride through town was quiet after their exchange. Then when we got on the county road, Redemption finally asked me, “Why?”
I knew what he meant. Why did I run?“You know why.”
He slowly shook his head. “I don’t really. Not all of it.”
I let out a sigh. He was right. I just didn’t know how to tell him that he was interested in an ex-hooker-slash stripper. I would have to tell him soon though. “I got scared,” I admitted.
“I can see that,” he scoffed. “But I can protect you.”
I knew he would try, but I wasn’t worth it. “You have to be at the exchange in how long?”
“We only have 2 days now.”
