I knew what he meant with all the murders and the pain she had caused.
“Now, let’s don’t talk about any of that.” She tisked.
“I agree,” Rip said. “I wanted to see you before…”
“What?” she asked then said, “Oh, you mean when they free me?”
I sucked in a breath at what she meant.
“How do you know that they will?” Rip asked.
“Well, if they want their Glory to live, they will,” she said.
“How can you sit there and say things like that?” he asked.
“What?” she retorted. “It is survival, son. I won’t make it in prison. I won’t.”
Silence.
“So is that what you’re here to talk about?””
“Yes, in a way,” Rip answered. “You see I plan to be at your side all the way to the exchange.”
“What?” She stood from her chair.
I placed my hand over my mouth, so no one would hear me gasp. So, they were going to set her free! Of course, they were. That poor girl would die if they didn’t. This meant…I halted. I would have to leave here and run again before they did it. I stood and turned to bump into a brick wall. But this wall had strong hands that caught me before I fell.
Chapter Eight:Days And Days
Redemption
Cinnamon struggled with me for a minute then she stopped. I tucked her close to me and whispered, “What’s got you so scared?”
Her body trembled, but she didn’t answer my question.
I held her arms and moved her a few inches away so I could see her face. “You need to tell me what’s going on with you.”
“No!” O yelled from the barn. “You can’t do that.”
I pulled Cinnamon down, so we could see O through the broken slat on the barn wall.
“And why not?” Rip asked her.
“W-well, it—it could be dangerous.”
“All of this is, mother. When you took Sofia. I was hurt. See this broken arm? And I caught a bullet to this arm. The doctor said that had my arm not been in a sling, that bullet would have been in my heart.”
“I told them to not shoot at you! I gave specific instructions. I will kill them when I get out of here!” O yelled.
Next to me, Cinnamon gasped at O’s yelling and tried to get up, but I wouldn’t let her as I held onto her arm.
“Mother,” Rylan spoke again. “Sofia was my best friend and all the support I had outside of the Walker family. She was important to me and you kidnapped her, you hurt her. In fact, I am going to marry her…If I make it out of all this alive.”
“Ohhh!” O wept. “Don’t say things like that, Rylan!”
“My dying could happen, in fact, I almost did during that treasure hunt you and whacko Irish sent me on.”
“It was to keep you away from here,” O stated in a panicked voice.
