Page 70 of Redemption
Ma reached over and took my hand. “This might be the scariest thing you ever witnessed, sweet Cinnamon.”
I looked up at her. “Ma, I’ve seen scary, believe me. Now, the only thing that scares me is losing my Redemption.”
Ma reached over and pulled me into aMahug. “The Walkers are a tough lot. Hardheaded, pure hearted sonsabitches.”
I laughed and pulled away, then my big mouth did it again, “That's why you need to keep Jarret around. Cause that man is all those things.”
Her eyes rounded in her face as she stared at me.
I nodded. “It is never too late for happiness, Ma. I just learned this new fact, myself. And if anyone has earned that, it would be you.” I left the kitchen.
When I got to the security room, I could hear the chatter of the men coming from the screens. I slowed my walk as I listened.
“Watch your six. Hit em back!”Talon shouted.“Move!”
“I got the door,”Redemption called out.
“The hell you do, see the wire?” Talon exclaimed.
I stared at the screen. A bomb? I stepped closer while feeling very afraid.
“Any down?”a man called out.
“Me,”a voice said.
“Me too,”another voice said.
“Keys, we need Tank for a wire,”Talon said.
“Affirmative, in a sec,”Keys called back.
I heard them but all I could see was the wall where they all were. “They’re going to diffuse a bomb with a tank?”
Logan shook his head. “Notatank. A man called Tank and he knows what he’s doing.”
I sure as hell hoped so. Then we all heard a pop and I jumped.
“No worries,” Logan said. “Tank just took care of it.”
I let out the breath I didn’t know I’d been holding.
Logan tapped some keys and we could see the door.
“Can I open it now?”Redemption’s voice asked.
“Wait,”Talon answered.“Ace, is there just one sig in there still?”
“Negative, is now three,” Logan answered as he stared at the funny looking heat signature box in the lower corner of the screen.
“Fuck,”Talon said.“Need to get through the glass to take out two with the package.”
Logan looked up at me and Jarret. “They are going to take out the guards who are in that room with Glory.”
We waited in the tense silence.
Over the comm, we heard,“Tac two, front is dead, moving in, over.”
“Hangfire,”Talon spoke into the comm. Then he said,“Ace, eyes on front?”
