Whatever response I could have given died as he stood and sauntered toward me, a grin teasing the edges of his full lips.
His soft minty aftershave swirled around me as he leaned down to kiss my cheek. “I’ll return as soon as the meeting is done, and then I’ll portal us to Chicago.”
I straightened his already straight tie and smiled up at him, well aware that he could sense my immediate interest in response to his close proximity.
Whatever. He was hot. And I was a succubus. My hormones constantly raged in his presence.
“I’ll be ready,” I promised, the double entendre coming easily to me. My body was veryready. And the last of my items were already packed. As we’d spent the last week moving most of my belongings, there wasn’t much left to do. So I’d be ready foranythinghe desired.
His obsidian gaze twinkled. “With the way Hell time works, I shouldn’t be gone long.”
“Good.” I went up on my bare toes to kiss his lips. His hands circled my waist, sliding beneath my baby-doll tee to palm my bare skin possessively. “Hurry back,” I whispered.
He portaled out with a wink, his scent wrapping around me in a sensual kiss.
Gleason just shook his head and polished off his coffee. Then he opened the dishwasher to set the mug on the rack and stared down at the dishes. “You bought these.”
“I did.”
“Are you taking them?”
“No. I’m leaving it all here.” I looked at him. “They belonghere.”
He nodded, his expression a little off. Then he ran his fingers through his thick auburn hair and cleared his throat. “You know, this will always be your home. You can come back. Anytime.”
I studied him, then grinned. “You’re going to miss me,” I realized out loud.
He scoffed, but it lacked his usual power. “Whatever.”
“You’re totally going to miss me,” I repeated, full on smiling now. “It’s okay, Gleason. I’m going to miss you, too.”
He fell silent for a minute, then nodded. “You certainly made things interesting around here.”
“Dark Provenance boring you?” I asked, humor in my voice.
“I wish,” he muttered. “Creek is driving me up the damn wall with his antics.”
“What’s he up to now?”
His expression soured. “Demons.”
“Isn’t that sort of like your job, though? Being obsessed with demons and keeping us in line?”
He looked me over. “Well, I suppose I did a decent job with you.”
I rolled my eyes. “It’s like you want me to prove I can kick your ass all over again.”
His green gaze glittered. “Your Demonic Lord wouldn’t appreciate my reaction to that.”
“Oh, so now that I’m leaving, flirting is okay?” I teased, missing him already.
He shrugged. “The temptation will no longer sleep next door. I can finally breathe again.”
I tackle hugged him in response and kissed him on the cheek. “I really am going to miss you, Gleason,” I whispered against his ear, suffocating him with my arms.
His interest teased the air, but it was diluted and dulled by the overpowering possession of Lord Zebulon’s essence running through me. I could feel Zane, too, the Demonic Lord having linked the three of us together with his powers and blood.
“Killing me, Gwen,” Gleason wheezed.
