Page 101 of Paramour of Sin
For just a moment, I thought he might believe me. That he’d seen through whatever strange magic was all over me and had figured out that it was really me underneath.
But then a calculating smile spread across the face I loved, and he grabbed my neck in a single hand. His fingers bit into my skin, digging deep into my tendons and muscles.
“As though I’d ever fall for that again,” he ground out. The blade was near my throat, and I thought it should burn more, the silver being that close to my skin. His lips moved against mine. “Goodbye for good, Amarella.”
Then he kissed me.
Shocked, I couldn’t move away and for a split second, I couldn’t move at all because I was so shocked by the feel of his lips on mine. Then I closed my eyes, relishing this final embrace and ignoring the fact that he thought I was Amarella. I opened to him completely, granting him entrance to my mouth, needing that one last connection with him, to take him with me into death.
Then something warm and coppery trickled past my tongue.
Blood.
Hisblood.
My eyes flew open, and I started to pull away, but his fingers tightened on my nape. He used the handle of my silver dagger to draw a line down my neck, one that indicated he needed me to swallow.
I didn’t understand.
But I obeyed.
It burned in the best way, reminding me of a decent whiskey as it warmed me from the inside out. His tongue swirled against mine, sensual, delicious with the taste of him and the tang of his essence. More of his blood slipped down my throat, and energy began to sizzle across my skin.
Hisenergy.
This is… demons…I shivered, my mind fracturing beneath a wave of forbidden understanding. Archdemons and Archangels shared their blood in this manner. With their mates.
Is he…? Am I…?
More of his potent essence slipped into my mouth, quieting my thoughts. His power swam around me, overwhelming and hot.More. Need more.
I moaned and reached for him, wanting to feel his skin, to wrap my body around his.
But he broke the kiss, leaving me dazed and confused.
“You know what? I’ve changed my mind. Let’s take her to Hell for Ashmedai to torture,” Lord Zebulon said against my mouth.
Then my world went black.
Chapter Twenty-Eight
Zebulon
Several Minutes Earlier
Amarella stopped fighting. Tears glistened on her cheeks as she slithered off the bed and fell into a bow on the floor. She ducked her head in astute reverence, and stayed there.
Unmoving.
Never once had Amarellaeverbowed for me in this manner.
Oh, she occasionally lowered her head in deference. But never did she fall to the floor in such a graceful manner and supplicate so thoroughly. It just wasn’t in her to do so. Amarella submitted to no one, not even her Demonic Lord.
My shoulders fell, my heart skipping a beat.
Guinevere.
Fuck.
