“Just as you’re mine to protect,” Zane countered. “And I want Guinevere to be under my protection, too.” His brilliant blue eyes focused on me. “We’re a unit. We guard each other. We cherish each other. We move forwardtogether.”
I was back to considering this a dream again.
Zane, the literal love of my life, was talking about a future. With me.
No,us.
With Lord Zebulon, too.
The three of us. A bonded threesome.
But I had questions.
“Will we share?” I asked, thinking about energy levels and the need to feed. Not that I felt hungry at all right now. I hadn’t even been able to feed last night, too full from our previous session. And I wasn’t all that peckish right now either. Actually, my soul seemed extremely well-sated still, which I’d never experienced before.
The two men shared a look before Zane inquired, “Do you want to share?”
“I…” I considered the question, then frowned. “No, not really,” I admitted, thinking back to how I felt when I thought they might have shared Amarella together. “I like… being just us.” It was an unsteady confession, but I wanted to be honest with them. “I feel special together.”
Maybe that made me sound immature, or needy.
However, it was the truth, and I wouldn’t apologize for it.
“I prefer it being just us, too,” Zane replied. “And Zebulon can provide more than enough energy to satisfy us both.”
“I’m not sure I could feed a third.” Lord Zebulon sounded amused. “It might kill me.”
Zane snorted. “You could take on ten sex demons and be just fine.”
Lord Zebulon thought about that for a moment and grimaced. “No. That’d be exhausting. And not in a fun way.”
Zane arched a knowing brow. “But two of us?”
“Oh, two of you, I can handle just fine,” the Demonic Lord murmured. “Assuming our darling succubus still wants me.” His palm suddenly felt like a brand against my cheek as his pupils reignited with heat and vitality. “I want to keep you, little one. I want to bond with you. I want to explore this future between us. But Ineedyou to agree. I won’t take that choice from you.”
“I won’t either,” Zane agreed. “And I agree with Zebulon. I want this. I wantyou.” Then he offhandedly added, “And I have no choice in regard to our lord being part of this. He’s owned me for years. Now he wants to own you, too.”
The Demonic Lord snorted. “Stop derailing her.”
“Just stating facts.”
Zebulon looked up at him. “Are you complaining about our bond?”
“I would never do that,” Zane replied seriously. “But Guinevere deserves to understand what exists between us. To understand why I’ve so easily accepted our bond.”
The two of them shared another of those wordless conversations.
But this time, I understood, too.
It was a strange sort ofknowingthat just blinked into my thoughts, turning on a lightbulb I never knew existed. “You’ve been together for so long, you don’t need permission to act. You just…do. And you don’t need to accept the other, because you already know it’s the right move.”
They both slowly shifted their attention to me, their intrigue palpable.
“That’s how I feel about both of you,” I continued softly. “I… I’ve always feltrightwith you. Both of you. Not necessarily together, because that’s new. But separately, well, it’s always been the way it should be. It’s why I told Zane I loved him. Because I knew I did. I knew we were supposed to be something. It’s why his rejection stung as badly as it did.”
He flinched, his lips parting.
“No, I don’t… I don’t need you to apologize. I understand why you did what you did. It still hurts. But hearing you apologize helped.” It didn’t heal all my wounds. However, time would fix that.Hewould fix that. I sensed that in his expression now, the vow to make it up to me. He’d already said it once, but he was repeating it now with his eyes.
