“Yeah, I highly doubt Crew would be the one she goes after. She knows how this nigga is, I’m sure. Whew Jesus, I’m going to get in trouble out here.” She shimmied her shoulders as if she had the chills.

Next in line!

The icee lady got our attention. We stepped forward and Pernelle told her what she wanted as I looked over the menu to see if there was anything chocolate that I could get. Pernelle had unintentionally changed my icee craving again to whatever flavor Hov may taste like.

After all, this was the closest thing I would have to the real thing because I am not setting myself up for failure dealing with another popular nigga that everybody wants.

Pernell and I got our icee and strolled around the court to see who we could see out here.

“Girl, how many kids is Brenda going to have?”

Pernelle gossiped.

“I don’t know. I know that baby in her arms has to be baby number seven. I want two kids max.”

I placed the icee on my tongue to melt.

“Yes, have two so that one can be for me and one can be for you.”

“I thought you and Emoney were considering having a baby through the injection method one day?”

“I mean, it sounds good, but we looked into it and it’s way too expensive for our blood right now. She is telling me that we will be able to afford it one day soon, but I don’t know how she coming up with all that money. Plus…”

She exhaled like what she was about to say was hard.

“Plus, I don’t know about having a baby and not knowing who the father is at all. Like what if I’m getting sperm from an ax murderer or a rapist?”

“P, I’m sure they don’t take sperm from murders or rapist.”

“Bitch, they don’t know who they are taking sperm from. They just ejaculate in a cup and hand it over.”

“Well, if you are that scared of having a baby with a strange rapist’s DNA, then try getting sperm from someone you know. I’ve heard of people doing that before.”

“Ci, now you know all I know is ax murders and rapists. What you mean, friend?”

I don’t know why I belted out laughing at this fool, but I did.

“You are so unserious, Pernelle. You two will figure it out tho’.”

“Yeah, or maybe, I will have to figure it out on my own with someone else.” She shrugged her shoulder.

I’m not sure what that last comment was about, but I know she had a different attitude about their future than she’d had in a while.

Maybe something went on that I didn’t know about between those two.

Or maybe it was all the eye candy floating around the block today.

“Ah shit, I am positive those dudes up ahead are talking about us at 9:00.”

“Where?” I looked from left to right before I spotted the crew of niggas gathered on the green box and checking us out. They had a bunch of jewelry on and shit too, but it was nowhere as flashy as Hov and Crew’s chains were.

As we got closer, I saw that he had a Hernandez chain on his neck, which was a large letter H chain that had a lightning bolt going through it.

The Hernandez Mafia was a crew of Hispanics ran by four brothers.

They had little morals in the hood and always preached if you are not with them, you’re against them.

I remember when I used to see the oldest brother all the time at the McDonalds I worked at on Broadway.

He never gave me no attitude, but he was nasty as hell to all the other workers there.

They used to say it’s because he liked me.

I didn’t pay him no mind tho’. During that time, I was only worried about Kairo.

“He is pointing at you. We should turn around.” Pernelle made me look their way, and unfortunately, I made eye contact with one of them.

“Yo Ciara.” He called my name.

“Come here.”

The short chunky one tilted his head in their direction, but I kept walking.

“Bitch, go over there and see what he wants before they shoot us in the back. You know how them boys are.”

Pernelle pushed me in their direction.

“Don’t be scared of us, mami. I’m K’so. These are my brothers. We understand you Ciara Chalvez, Kairo’s girl.”

“Yeah, my name is Ciara. How do you know me?”

“My big brother Benny just said he recognized you. I just wanted you to tell your boy that we appreciate him.”

“Appreciate him for what?”

“He cleared up some vital territory in the south Bronx for us. Thanks to him we going to be making more money now than ever.”

“By killing that dude Diablo?” Pernelle asked, standing slightly behind me.

“Yeah, doing that was all we needed. Tell him to let us know how we can look out for him.”

“To be honest, you will have to ask his mama or his sister Honey what he needs. I haven’t talked to him since he’s been locked up.”

“Damn, you not holding your nigga down?”

“I’ve been there and done that.”

“Well, be here and do me. Dame de esa panocha, bebé.”

I know a little Spanish, so I’m positive his ass was being mad disrespectful now, so I walked away.

Once our backs were to them, they started to say more disrespectful shit about our asses, but I wasn’t paying them no attention.

“Can you believe them niggas trying to befriend Kairo? As if he needed any more bad influence in his life.”

“I can believe it. K’so ain’t no good just like Kairo.”

I shook my head, scooping up some of the icee into my mouth so I could cool off.

“But I tell you what, Ci. You got these niggas out here feigning for you. Kairo locked up and this pussy is a hot commodity, do you hear me?”

Pernelle laughed and I elbowed her because I’m not worried about none of these niggas out here.

Even if I can’t get one in particular off my mind, that’s as far as things will go. Hov is fun to look at, but those are the ones that cause the most heartbreak.

Again, no fuckin’ thank you on all these niggas.
