Page 31 of Obeying Mr Kingsley
“Keep your voice down.”I squint, glancing around the restaurant.“Jesus, Em.”
“Sorry.But that’s kind of hot.”She glances at Catherine.“Block your ears.Why not his office?I mean, that’s—”
“Nope.Do not say those next words.”Catherine does in fact block her ears.“He’s my brother. We need rules.”
Emily and I laugh.
It would’ve been more comfortable in his office, that’s for sure.I had bruises on my back for a few days.A reminder that the entire thing was quick, erotic, but meant very little.
I’m sure Mason is already seeking out someone new to play with.
“It just happened. You must’ve noticed our chemistry.”I say, and Emily nods.“Well, it’s out of our systems now.Done.Over with. Both of us have moved on.”
Both the girls stare at me as if they don’t believe a word of it.
I hold up my hands.
“The firefighter?Craig? You guys told me not to go home with him.I was totally willing.”
I wasnotwilling.
I was barely willing while dancing.Craig is nice looking, sure, but the truth is I was doing it to get under Mason’s skin, and it was working.
I hadn’t expected such a response, but now it’s blown up, and everyone knows we slept together.
I’m a little ashamed.
Easy Lexi, the PA who let her boss fuck her at work.
It’s only sexy if it’s a secret.
“Craig doesn’t sound like a good guy,” Emily says.
“It’s just sex.I don’t need him have cured cancer or adopted some refugees.”I roll my eyes.“Anyway, Terrance, our IT guy has been flirting like mad.If it doesn’t work out with the firefighter, I might go out with him.”
Emily doesn’t look convinced.
“You and Mason are in the wedding party, so please don’t make it awkward.”
“Not awkward at all,” I reply, too high-pitched.“It’s fine.”
Catherine sips her wine and smiles.
She bloody knows.
Things are not fine; they are very awkward. We don’t use first names, and our conversations are short and sharp with one another.
Mason even snapped at Terrance yesterday afternoon, telling him to return to his floor and not to show his face up here again this week.
I’ve never seen him like that before.
“Stop wasting company resources.Google your issues first.”He stormed off into his office.
They have a huge pitch for an international client next week, so he’s probably stressed.Apparently, it’s an enormous deal, one they are keeping highly confidential.Only a couple of the team know anything about it, and the files are all locked down.
I am hoping that after that happens, he returns to normal.
Whatever normal is.
