He laughs.

“Well, let’s get you set up.”

Lexi follows him into the boardroom while I grumble silently about how that sounded way too sexual but can’t find a single thing to justify it.

I need more sleep.

An hour later, Andy wraps up, and I sit back and examine the client’s reaction.

“What do you think?”I ask Robyn.

“It’s good.We’ll do our due diligence and come back to you.Meanwhile, it’s Friday night.How about we all go up to the rooftop for a drink?”Robyn glances around the table.

Lexi’s eyes light up.

“I have my daughter's school play,” Andy says.“Next time.”

“Oh, I’d love to,” Lexi pipes up.

Chen looks pleased.

Robyn glances at me, a smile on his lips, which tells me his marriage isn’t all he’s made it out to be.Or she’s not aware of his extracurricular activities.

Lexi packs up, looking excited at the prospect of seeing more of NYC, and I can’t help but agree.

“Sure, we can spare an hour.”

It was after five, anyway, and while I’d seen the spectacular view from up there, I wanted to see the joy on her face.

It was worth it.

Lexi might be sassy, and driving me crazy, but she’s one of those people who seems to live life fully.

“Oh, my god.This is amazing up here.”She gasps.“Imagine waking up to this view every day.”

I do.

And I wanted to show her.

But that would mean taking her home.

Which wasnothappening.

“Let’s get you a drink,” Robyn says, and she follows him to the bar while I stay back, sliding my hands into my pockets, wondering how I can contain this growing desire to possess her.

To tell the world she is mine.

While also not doing that.

For the next hour or two, Robyn, Chen and three of their directors amuse themselves in her presence, casting dirty eyes over her extremely short dress and silky thighs.

Was I doing the same thing?

Lexi’s glistening eyes crossed to mine, and when I took in their naughty glint, I caught myself.

Does she know what she’s doing?

Is this all a game?
