“Personally bringing you the phone in the middle of the night, following you last night in my car, asking you for a dance even though you were dancing with someone else, and coming here after the party to wait for you to arrive. All those crazy things,” he confessed, leaving me completely perplexed.
He had been waiting for me? That really surprised me. Since he had been honest, I decided to be honest too, but perhaps not quite as much.
“I desire you, but I think you already know that,” I said with conviction, and he nodded.
“I don’t offer emotional relationships, yes a relationship, but leaving feelings aside. Emotions have to stay out of it. I offer something very clear, a relationship between lovers with no expectations, the only thing we need to worry about is sex andpleasure, and I’ll make sure of yours, you can count on that. But you should know that I’m a very passionate man and I need to satisfy myself frequently, especially now that I’ve met you because just thinking about you keeps me aroused all the time.”
Everything he was telling me seemed incredible. I would never have imagined that I could provoke all those emotions and reactions in him.
“I have a complicated life, William. My work hours are long and...”
“We can take advantage of free time, I can assure you of that. I also have a complicated life, and not just in the professional realm, but you can always find time to experience this sublime pleasure we just felt.”
I sighed and looked at him cautiously. Being with him again was something that excited me tremendously. What he was offering wasn’t far from what I was looking for; in my case, I wasn’t willing to experience another romantic disappointment and I was clear that I didn’t want to be in a relationship. What was the point of going through all that dating stuff or whatever you call a formal relationship, if I couldn’t offer to form a family? I was only willing to have romantic adventures, and that’s what William Cavaller was offering me. Why not?
“You’re thinking about it too much and that’s destroying my ego.”
“You don’t seem like a person with a weak ego,” I said, smiling, because it was obvious that this man was overwhelming.
“I’m not, that’s true. Well?”
“I accept your proposal.”
A genuine smile appeared on his lips.
“This is going to be fun and, above all, pleasurable,” he said, lowering my robe so that one of my shoulders was exposed and placing a burning kiss on it.
“We’ll have a romantic affair where feelings aren’t involved. Falling in love is forbidden,” I said, although his kisses were already affecting me and I couldn’t think very clearly.
William raised his head and looked at me.
“I can handle that because it’s what I’m looking for. I’m clear about what I want and what I expect from you, and I hope you are too,” he stated, looking at me seriously.
“I don’t want anything to do with love. Is that enough for you?”
“It is, but may I know why?” he asked, very curiously.
“Divorce.”
“You’re divorced?” he asked, with surprise reflected on his attractive face.
“Why are you so surprised?” I inquired, because I really didn’t understand his astonishment; after all, for better or worse, divorce rates were quite significant.
“I simply couldn’t imagine you married.”
“I was married for 5 years. I got married very young,” I commented, but I had started to tense up because I didn’t like talking about that topic, especially with him.
“How old are you?” And it was the second time he had asked, though this time I intended to answer.
“29 years old, and you?”
“I’m 39,” he said, and I noticed that he kept looking at me as if expecting a comment from me, but I wasn’t surprised because it was the age I had assumed he would be. “I suppose if marriage made you run away from love, you must not have had a good experience.”
“My marriage ended in divorce, that says a lot already.”
“A divorce doesn’t always cause rejection of that feeling, and besides, you’re very young.”
“I’ll just say that disappointment hurts and you don’t want to feel that way again, therefore, I’m not going to go through that thing called love again and much less through a marriage, but if you don’t mind, I’d prefer not to keep talking about it,” I requested, because I wasn’t willing to say anything more.
