Page 3 of Love's Most Wanted
Alvin. Though everyone knew what the A in his initials stood for, only people familiar with him called him Alvin.
“I’m not sure. I think I was too nice and?—”
Before he could finish his sentence, I sent my fist into his jaw, making him stumble and knock over the glass napkin holders along the bar. The whole room clamored about in shock, as security rushed over to detain me from hitting his ass again.
Zosia screamed, and AJ cupped his jaw, moving it a bit to check if it was out of place as his wife tended to him.
“Too nice? Nigga, you better be glad it’s security here or I would whup your soft ass! What kind of man lets another man make him jump off a boat, you bitch! And you’re the one who can’t act! Not Unique, you pencil dick ass nigga!” I fussed loudly as security carried me toward the exit, the party in a bit of pandemonium. “I fucking hate you!”
That sentence was the last thing I was able to say before the security guard stepped outside of the ballroom and into the hotel it was being held in, Unique coming out shortly after.
“Aye, let her go,” he told the man sternly but calmly.
The guard hesitated for a moment but then gave a curt nod before placing me to my feet. I tried to dart back inside when he opened the door to go in, but Unique caught me.
“Let me go!” I snapped at him, so he did, tossing his hands up in mock surrender as I paced on the slippery hotel floors that were so clean I could see my reflection. I was beside my damn self and in a bit of disbelief. “Fuck,” I mumbled, feeling the tears well up in my eyes as I fished my iPhone from my small clutch.
I started looking for an Uber but realized I was sharing a room with AJ in Caesar’s Palace, and all my shit was in there. I felt stupid, ashamed, and, most of all, angry.
“Let me get you a ride. No sense in wasting ya money, love.” Unique spoke up, reminding me that he was still standing here.
“Give me a ride, where? I don’t have a room because I am pretty sure AJ is going to take his pregnant wife back to the suite all my shit is in,” I said, feeling vomit at the back of my throat at the mention of him having a wife and a pregnant one at that.
This shit felt like a punch to the throat and gut.
“Don’t worry about that, baby. I can get ya shit, and we can find a room for?—”
“I need a drink.” I started off, and I knew Unique was following me because I could smell his pleasant cologne. He always smelled good, and it was always the same scent, so I’d begun to attribute whatever cologne it was to him. “I didn’t say I wanted company, Unique.”
I wasn’t trying to be rude, but I wanted to be alone and in a dark club or bar so I could cry. Having Unique be an audience member to my pathetic-ness wasn’t a part of the game plan.
“I can’t let you wander off while upset and talking ’bout drinking, alone and shit, Kabrina.” His deep voice seemed to vibrate my chest as he caught up to me, keeping close.
Spotting the club inside of the Wynn, I started that way but grunted at the long line of people wanting to get inside.
“Damn.” I huffed, and Unique noticed my distress instantly.
“Hold up.” He moved toward the bouncer, talked for a bit, putting on that wide smile of his that was so much more captivating now that I was single, and then he waved for me to come on with a wink.
It was difficult to keep a smile off my face just from seeing his, but thankfully, I was successful, slipping my hand into his large one as he tugged me along inside of the club while people complained.
“Thank you!” I shouted since it was loud as hell in here. It was full of drunk white people already wilding out. “I need a drink!” I screamed again over “Where Have You Been?” by Rihanna, which clearly these people loved because they were damn near floating with how high they were jumping and swinging their heads.
Unique gripped my hand tighter before deciding to pull me in close to his person. The move caused me to look up into his handsome, bearded face as he carefully guided me through the packed club, and the words Rihanna crooned were exactly what I was thinking at the moment. I’d always found him sexy as hell, but having my AJ blinders off enhanced everything. My renewed vision had me wondering where had this fine ass chocolate nigga been this whole time?
“Aight, what you want?” he asked once we got to the bar.
It took me a moment to snap out of the trance he and my thoughts had me in.
“Something strong,” I replied, delayed.
He nodded, then ordered for me before himself as we sat on the stools of the bar. Just then, the song switched to Rihanna’s “We Found Love” causing people to go crazy again. A man bumped into me just as I was about to take a sip, making both Unique and me turn to look at him.
“Aye, watch what the fuck you doing, nigga. It’s women sitting ’round here.” He snapped at the inebriated white man who threw his hands up in mock surrender.
“Sorry,” he slurred, his eyes holding remorse, so I nodded to say I accepted. The sight of Unique had the man spooked.
We turned back to our drinks as I gulped down whatever Unique had ordered me, low-key regretting allowing him to choose due to the strength. As the liquor sluiced down my throat, tasting like rubbing alcohol, a thought hit me.
