Page 107 of Love's Most Wanted
“My soon to be sister-in-law is a mess already.” Anastazia laughed, and her comment sent the rest of us into a fit of laughter as Low and Rue had a back and forth before Asif told them both to take the shit out of the party.
“Nah,shecan take that shit out of the party,” Low said, trailing behind Asif, who had walked off.
The rest of the party went smoothly, surprisingly, and I think Banks forgot about all the drama and Rue’s presence once she was gifted a brand-new fully loaded Jeep from her father.
All in all, it was an amazing night, but I knew Unique’s dreams of Banks losing her crush were not in the near future.
FAMILY REUNION…
“Now,who cooked the food so I know whether to eat that shit or not?” I asked Kabrina as I helped her from the car.
Her family reunion was at a park, and I could already see a table full of food that was swarmed with people wearing the same T-shirt. Kabrina had one on and had given me one. I wasn’t planning on wearing the shit, but when I realized how much it meant to her, I threw it on.
I quickly figured out there wasn’t much I wouldn’t do to make Kabrina smile or be happy or stress free. Seemed like it was a nigga’s life goal now. Truthfully, I didn’t know how I lived a full life before this girl. Memories of life before us seemed bleak.
“My aunt Rosette. She’s the best cook, and though she complains every year about having to make every damn thing, she also knows she doesn’t want anyone helping.”
“Aight. We gon’ see. I got some refined ass taste buds because my mama can throw down and my sister-in-law don’ spoiled us,” I said, making Kabrina chuckle.
“You like her food over mine?”
“She’s a professional, but at the end of the day, I would want yo’ food over hers. I’d want anything from you. A bowl of cereal you make for a nigga would taste better than her famous pork chop dish to me.”
Kabrina blushed before I kissed her as we walked through the grass toward where all the family was.
Immediately upon spotting Kabrina, they all walked over, and her Aunt Bell was the first to pull me into a hug, which was the least she could do since I’d given her ass fifteen bands. Just another fucking example of how I’d do anything for Kabrina.
I couldn’t remember the last time I did some shit like that or gave a woman a knot of cash to get her nails done. She brought something out of a nigga that no woman had before, and even though it should’ve been that way because she was my wife, it scared the fuck out of me how open she had my ass.
But I was gon’ roll with it. I didn’t wanna be so hesitant and scared that I caused some shit I wanted to work so badly, not to work. And if she fucked me over, I would just never give my heart to another for the rest of my fucking days.
I wasn’t too worried, though, to keep shit real. If I trusted anybody with my heart, my thoughts, my feelings, anything, it’d be Kabrina.
“Ooh, he is handsome!”
“This is Rosette, the one who cooked everything.” Kabrina simpered as I hugged the older woman.
A couple more people walked up to greet us, and when I turned my attention on them, it was like my heart stalled. The dark-skinned woman before me smiled gently as the brown-skinned man beside her tried to kind of slink off behind her.
“This is my best friend Sharon,” Aunt Bell told me.
“Nice to meet you… Unique?” Sharon wanted to be sure.
“Um, yeah. Unique.” I nodded, and I felt Kabrina look up at me, probably wondering why I’d gone from smiling hard as fuck to having delayed ass responses void of any smiles.
“This is my husband, Kyle.” Sharon turned a bit, tugging her husband up in front. “Our sons Deacon and Adriel are over there playing basketball.” She pointed over her shoulder with her thumb. “But this here is little Faith.” She smiled down at the little girl whose back was pressed against her legs.
I couldn’t even focus on anyone else other than Devante Compton or Kyle.
“Uh, nice to meet you, son.” He stuck his hand out uncomfortably, and even though I’d planned to shrug this shit off and act like I didn’t know him, him calling me son and doing that exact fucking thing—pretending he didn’t know my ass—set me off.
“Nice to meet me?” I laughed mirthlessly, causing everyone in the small circle to look on with confusion. “I know it’s been a minute, my nigga, but you remember me.” I nodded.
“What?” Sharon questioned, eyes bouncing between her husband and me for answers.
“I have no idea what he’s talking about, honey.” He shrugged and looked at her as if to say I was crazy.
“Baby—”
