As they skated away, Ramonté complained that he hadn’t gotten his second double shot he’d ordered. I heard a bit of commotion at the front entrance, making me look to see Unique Compton entering.
He was alone, which I didn’t expect considering he had not one but two girlfriends, and yes, they knew about one another.
As distasteful as I found their arrangement, and as stupid as I thought his women were, I couldn’t deny that he was fine. Only a man who looked like that could have that type of situation. Not with me, but you get my point.
He waswellbeyond six feet, with an onyx complexion, caramel and green swirled eyes, full lips, long lashes, low-cut fade, and a smile that could light up a pitch-black room. And those were only the first few things you noticed. I didn’t feel bad for finding him to be fine, because most women did, even the mean, in denial lesbians, I was sure.
Unique was a universal handsome, and I realized it ran in the family when I saw his siblings at a yacht party one afternoon. Even his stepbrother, whose party it was, was fine as fuck. And you knew you were sexy if I still thought so despite him making my man jump off the boat and find his own way back to shore.
Thankfully, we hadn’t been sailing long, and AJ could swim. He didn’t talk to me for days though because according to him, I should’ve followed him, which was insane to me.
Anyway, Unique and his brothers were the most take-your-pick niggas I’d ever seen in person. I assumed their wives chose them by personality alone, because they were all too fine to pick by looks.
“How y’all doing?” Unique walked up, grinning, and in turn, it made me do the same.
AJ had inquired once on why I was so smiley whenever his co-star was present, and I didn’t know, so I chalked it up to the fact that Unique was funny, so the sight of him made me smile… I guessed. I wasn’t sure, but I just knew whenever he was nearby or spoke to me, I couldn’t help it.
“Good, bruh, especially with the news.” AJ slapped hands with Unique, smiling extra hard. “You killed it season four.”
Though they were somewhat cool, AJ often spoke poorly of Unique, saying things about his acting and how he didn’t get how Unique even bookedDough Boyz. I would only nod and listen because I didn’t agree. Unique had acting chops, for sure, but I wasn’t about to go against my man, nor was I about to lie to appease him. By saying that, I kept it mute during those rants.
“I know I did.” Unique joked, making us both laugh as AJ faked one. I knew him well enough to know when his laughs or smiles weren’t genuine.
He was bothered by Unique’s acceptance of his compliment, but it was obvious he was joking. At least to me it was.
“AJ, we have a surprise for you,” announced the producer, Stanton Cameron.
I couldn’t see what it was because Unique was blocking our view, but I heard his voice. Unique glanced over his shoulder and slowly moved out of the way, almost like he didn’t want to, and milliseconds later, Stanton appeared arm-in-arm with a pretty young woman with a very far along pregnant belly. I was jolted when AJ snatched his hand from mine just before she rushed into his arms and pressed her lips… to his.
“Congratulations, baby!” She screeched, and I recognized her from somewhere but couldn’t place it.
When I glanced over and up at Unique, he didn’t look surprised, and for the first time since I’d met his ass, he was speechless seemingly, clutching the short glass of liquor he’d walked up with.
“Baby… um, what you doing here? You shouldn’t even be flying.” AJ feigned excitement and happiness, obviously avoiding eye contact with me.
“I know, and Stanton told me that, but when I heard the show got renewed, I had to come see you and celebrate you.” She gripped his face to kiss his lips deeply as his hands rested on the sides of her large belly.
I was so floored that I couldn’t speak. I didn’t understand what the fuck was going on and why I, as well as some of the partygoers, were the only ones surprised. Tamira, Stanton, Unique, and even Ramonté across the room were either smiling at the reunion or unmoved. The rest of us had our lips parted in shock.
Everyone who was a part of this show knew AJ was my man. He didn’t hide me and often had me on set with him. Not once did any of these people mention AJ being with someone else or having a baby on the way.
“Zosia.” The pregnant woman finally turned to me with her hand out.
“Kabrina… I’m sorry. What the fuck is going on?” I shook her hand, barely, for a beat before realizing what I was doing and taking it back.
Swallowing a boulder it seemed, AJ said, “Kabrina, this is my wife, Zosia. Zosia, this is Kabrina, umm, Unique’s girl.” He snatched up Unique’s eyes, pleading with him to go along.
Before Unique could make a decision, I made it for his ass.
“No, I’mnotUnique’s girl. I came here with your husband. Your husband has been my man for the past two years, and I knew nothing about you,” I stated, rendering audible gasps from people around the party with their fake asses.
“Ah, I couldn’t wait for this,” I heard Tamira say, and I confirmed right then that I didn’t like that bitch for several reasons. She was a predator. She knew AJ was married, and she found this shit to be entertaining.
“Excuse me?” Zosia frowned, looking between AJ and me for answers. “This has been my husband for the past seven years, and everyone knows that.”
“Oh, okay. Well, everyone who knows neglected to tell me.” I chuckled humorlessly.
“What is she talking about, Alvin?” Zosia looked up at him.
