Chapter 195 - Volume 5 Chapter 30: A Reunion That Wasn't Touching at All
(Walson)
Adventurer's Guild.
This organization is very common in many RPG games, novels, and even movies and TV shows. So, what exactly is this organization?
The history of the Adventurer's Guild can be traced back six hundred years. It operates independently of any nation and controls a huge profit from brokering military campaigns. To put it in Earth's terms, they are like legitimate mercenaries for hire.
Despite being a monopolistic organization in the market, no nation dares to mess with the Adventurer's Guild.
Looking at historical records, there have been cases where nations tried to suppress the presence of the Adventurer's Guild and create a state-run Adventurer's Guild. However, the outcomes were often disastrous. These nations faced economic stagnation, shortages of imported goods, and maliciously increased export tariffs. Eventually, their government credit collapsed, they couldn't provide the promised rewards for campaigns, and they suffered from a brain drain of martial talent.
Why did this happen? It's important to understand the nature of adventurer business.
On this continent, most sizable towns have branches of the Adventurer's Guild, and within the boundaries of the country's laws, their services range from large-scale national campaigns to military organization, to small tasks like finding lost pets or temporary labor for construction projects.
With such a broad scope of services, various industries have developed around the Adventurer's Guild.
Equipment manufacturing, weapon crafting, potion making, dry food production, mining raw materials, supplying potion ingredients, transportation, and more. These industries are closely related to adventurers. If the Adventurer's Guild were to disappear, I don't know what the consequences would be, but it would undoubtedly lead to financial crises in several countries.
That's the essence of the Adventurer's Guild, an unshakable behemoth.
Well, that being said, during the religious war four hundred years ago, as the Eastern and Western nations split, the guild also divided into Eastern and Western branches. The reason I mention this here is to supplement the information I've mentioned several times before.
In this world, the quickest way to obtain accurate information is through the information brokers affiliated with the Adventurer's Guild. But why are the news and information from the Eastern and Western countries so closed off?
The reason is this: due to the division of the Adventurer's Guild, it became challenging for information to pass through the two neutral countries in the middle of the continent (Braatio and Mahamatra).
However, because of this, the situation in the neutral countries became somewhat ambiguous. It became the convergence point for information from both sides of the Adventurer's Guild. In other words, in this enormous city, you can find branches of the Adventurer's Guild belonging to both factions.
...Well, in our case, of course, we are going to the Eastern nation. The Adventurer's Guild in the Eastern countries also has many nicknames, and from now on, let's call it the Eastern Adventurer's Guild.
At two o'clock in the afternoon, after leaving the mineral market, I held Tanaya's hand and arrived at the Eastern Adventurer's Guild branch.
My current mood is a bit awkward. I just got inexplicably beaten up by Barella, and then she angrily walked away... The strength of an archer is truly formidable.
But all I did was buy a pair of bracelets for her and say, "Go ahead, propose to that unlucky guy! I support you!" and then I got a good beating... Sob, sob, how shameless she can be to pick on a helpless villager.
Well, I guess making fun of the person she likes like this is going too far. I would be upset too if someone else said that Grace is unlucky. Should I apologize to Barella later? ...Never mind, let's not dwell on that.
Unlike when we first entered, little Tanaya is now wearing an exquisite little dress and has a protective stone necklace around her neck. She happily eats the small cake I gave her, looking like a cherished little princess.
Like this, I discreetly enter the Adventurer's Guild with her.
I have to say, I'm really a rustic guy. Every time I arrive at a new place, I have to give it a good shock, and this time is no exception.
No wonder it's a city of adventurers; the scale of the Adventurer's Guild can be described as a "classical European-style commercial plaza."
"Wow—!!!" With the small door at the entrance pushed open, Tanaya and I simultaneously let out expressions of awe.
The wooden floor serves as the foundation, towering logs as pillars, supporting a three-story-high building. Numerous magic stone lamps light up, illuminating the interior brightly.
Looking to the left, dozens of small counters are arranged side by side, each with a number plate hanging above it. Many receptionists in uniform are talking to adventurers or handling paperwork.
In the central square, several massive bulletin boards are located there, crowded with adventurers browsing requests and eccentric outfits.
Turning to the right, there's a place similar to a tavern, with groups of adventurers drinking and discussing mission details and rewards.
Orcs, Lizardkin, elves, dark elves, dog-eared girls... This is the first time I've seen so many different races gathered in one place.
Shouting and arguing echo all around, with a few kids selling potions among them... This scene truly feels like something out of an RPG game!
"Hey, Princess's Masseur." Just as we were immersed in amazement, someone suddenly tapped my shoulder.
"Huh...?" I turned around, somewhat puzzled, and the person before my eyes was a young man dressed in leather and a white shirt.
"Yo, long time no see." The young man gave me a brilliant smile, with his golden, slightly curly hair and a distinctive beard... He's quite handsome!
"...?"
But... who is this? Do I know such a handsome guy?
Is he a scammer?
"It's Boss Alice and Sister Dean who asked me to find you... But let's put that aside for now. You really haven't changed a bit in the past three years, be it your appearance... or height." The handsome guy maintained his familiar attitude...
Suddenly, his face started to gradually merge with a face from my memory...
"Damn it! Do you want me to spank you with a stick again!? Just because you're handsome now doesn't mean I won't dare to beat you!" I raised my head, looked him straight in the eyes, and cursed.
I have to raise my head to look at this guy!!!!
Heavens above! Unfair! Why can a brat like him become handsome!?
I want to grow taller and become handsome too!!!!
I scream in despair in my heart while looking at the data displayed on the [Status Detection].
