Once Devrick was gone as well, Katya looked at me and said, “What did he say?”

Part of me almost didn’t want to mention it to her. I didn’t even want to entertain the thought, but because Katya was hands down a more logical person than me, she might be willing to. Then again, I remembered her plea to me from our wedding night and knew that I owed it to her not to lie.

“Devrick thinks that we should postpone our honeymoon,” I told her. “He’s guessing that The Wreckers are just waiting for us to leave so that they can make a move.”

She walked over and slid down onto my lap, wrapping her arm around my shoulder. “And what do you think?”

“I don’t want to cancel our honeymoon for anything in the world,” I replied. “I’ve been looking forward to it. Almost as much as I was looking forward to the wedding.”

Smiling, Katya leaned down to press her lips against mine. I sank into it a little bit, loving the feeling of her in any circumstance, but particularly now while tensions were high and our honeymoon was on the line. “At the risk of sounding like some sort of children’s show, I have to say that we can make the most of wherever we are.”

“I know that,” I told her. “And at the risk of soundingmorelike some sort of sappy show, I’m always happy wherever you are, but…” I actually pouted. “I’ve put so much effort into it. I really wanted to be able to get away and just enjoy each other.”

“Me too,” she said. “I don’t wanna cancel it. I know it’s probably irresponsible, but we should just go. They’ll be fine.”

A huge smile wrapped across my face. “There’s that impulsive woman I fell in love with.” We kissed again, and as much as I wanted to just recline my office chair right then and there and get the honeymoon started, I knew why that wouldn’t work. If we wanted to be able to actually enjoy our honeymoon, it was going to require us to take care of this Wreckers issue first. “Do you think you can fish them out?”

“With enough time and patience, I’m certain of it. There’s not a whole lot of prey I’ve hunted that I haven’t caught… Including you,” she purred.

I shook my head, letting a shiver roll off my back. “Yeah… We’re definitely going to need our honeymoon.”

“Well then I suppose I should go and get started,” Katya said, standing up off my lap.

As she was about to walk away, I snagged her hand and held her back. She looked down at me with those stunning chocolate brown eyes and permanent dimples, and tilted her head to the side. She smiled and squeezed my hand, and I just took a moment to drink all of her in. To remind myself that this woman was really and truly mine for the rest of our lives.

“What?” she said finally.

“Promise me you’ll be careful,” I said to her. “Even families and other groups that have been here for decades and have tons of experience and manpower know better than just to attack the Costellos outright. Whether it’s stupidity or something else, this group believes they’re justified in just attacking us blindly like they have which means they probably don’t have a ton of restraint.”

“I’ll be careful,” she said. “I promise.”

“I love you,” I said.

She grinned at me. “I love you too.”

I trusted both Katya as a person and the skills that her ruthless father laid into her. Now I simply had to hope that she could find out where The Wreckers were hiding so that we could make our attack and show them that the Costello Family was not to be messed with.
