I nodded. “But I never knew about his wife. See, I was told by the person who informed me of his marriage that I looked a lot like his wife. In fact, exactly like her. So, I was crushed after seeing him for more than six months and I even thought I loved him. I mean to find out I was replacing the true love of his life? Like a fucking stand in for the real thing. I admit it hurt a lot, even more than what Wade had done to me, really. It hit deeper. And again, Belle was there.”
“Well, Ma says I’m a real charmer,” he joked.
“I think you’ll need more than that.” I smiled at him.
“Well, the one thing I cannot change is my sex.” Justice shrugged. “I’m a man through and through.”
I grabbed his face with both hands. “Oh, yes you definitely are.” Kissing him, I felt better in some ways. This man was all the things that my ex-boyfriends weren’t. I was even starting to believe that the third time could be the charm.
Chapter Eleven:The Car Wash
Justice
When we got back to the garage, Liberty called out, “Well, it’s about time.”
I rolled my eyes.
Talon came up to where we stood. “We have commpieces for you to wear,” he said as he stared at me. “That way, you can hear us at least. Maybe it will keep you from jumping out too soon.” He handed me the earpiece.
“You really don’t think I can stay in there long, do you?” I glared at him.
“I wouldn’t be able to if it was my girl.” He shrugged his shoulders. “This also keeps everyone on the same page.” He turned and gave Liberty one.
Liberty took it from him. “Wow, like James Bond shit, right?”
Talon shook his head. “I hope you don’t clog up the airwaves, Liberty.”
“Oh, don’t worry he will,” I quipped.
“I can stay quiet,” Liberty claimed as he looked insulted.
“Oh, yeah?” Redemption walked up as he grinned at Liberty. “Then why when we were kids did you always lose that game of who could stay silent the longest?”
“He can’t stand not being able to annoy us, that’s why,” I quipped.
“Hmph!” Liberty glared at us. “I can keep my peace.”
Redemption and I looked from him to each other and then said at the same time, “Nahhh.”
Liberty scoffed as he flipped us off with both hands.
“Ok, it is time, boys,” Liv announced.
Turning, I grasped Scarlet’s arms and tugged her close. “We will be right there with you, ok?” I kissed her softly on the lips.
She kissed me back then pulled away as she looked nervous. “I will try to remember that.”
“Like I said, just breathe and try not to panic,” I told her. “You have a whole army behind you.”
Liv handed her the car keys and Scarlet made her way around the old car to the driver’s door.
Liberty stood at the trunk. “Ready to be a sardine?” He grinned at me.
I shook my head and came over. “Not really, but let’s get in and no bumping your ugly against me, man.”
He laughed. “It happens to be beautiful, not ugly. And that’s just gross, brother.” He climbed in and scooted as far over as he could.
I released a long breath and climbed in next to him.
