I chuckled as I knew he was stressing thetwopart. “Good morning, Lib. You ready?” I pulled out a chair for Scarlet then scooted it in a bit.
He nodded his head at me. “Are you kidding? I was born—”
“Oh, cut that out.” I rolled my eyes at him. “Using film lines. Born ready?” I sat down and grabbed a cup to pour one for Scarlet then one for me. “You could at least come up with something more original.”
“Gee, Mr. Perfect, you are even more insufferable today than you were yesterday,” Liberty scoffed.
Scarlet chuckled.
I looked over at her. “See? My flaw right there, so you can relax now.”
She actually spit her coffee out as she laughed.
“What is so damned funny?” Liberty asked, looking at me then at Scarlet.
“Nothing, Lib. Just making a point.” I shrugged.
Scarlet had to wipe coffee from her chin and mouth as she asked, “You two never quit, do you?”
“Quit what?” Liberty asked her innocently.
She laughed again.
“Let me pour you another cup,” I said while biting my lip to keep from laughing at him, as I grabbed her mug and did so.
We all avoided the subject of our ‘trip to town’ as we ate breakfast.
Talon, Liv and Logan or Ace as he was called, all sat at the other end. They also talked about other things, I noticed. Then I swung my gaze over to stop at my father’s face.
He sat still in his chair, scowling at me.
Well hell, he knew. Well, of course he knew, Redemption would do his brotherly or his presidential duty and told him the whole thing. I met his glare and raised my chin as if to say...I won’t be backing down from this.
Dad just shook his head and he did not look happy.
Scarlet tugged on my arm and noted the obvious, “He looks really pissed off.”
“That’s cause he is,” Liberty spoke up. “I had a run in with him earlier.”
“Well, that’s too bad,” I said quietly. “If he can’t see that we have to be there, then I don’t know what to say.”
“But that’s just it,” Scarlet said. “You shouldn’t be there.”
I swung my gaze over to look at her. “Scarlet, we already settled this. I will be with you all the way.”
She slowly shook her head. “I know what you said, but who can blame him for being upset? Both his sons are putting their lives on the line for me and my sister? I mean he barely knows me at all.”
“Yes, we both are doing that,” Liberty said. “But he is wrong, we do know you and my brother is in love with you. That makes you family. Pure and simple.”
I turned my head back to stare at him. “Well, damn.”
“What?” Liberty asked and raised his juice glass to drain it. He then looked at me. “It’s true. I’m sorry if I broke some rule. I mean if you haven’t told her yet. But time is of the essence, right?”
I just stared at him as if seeing him for the first time.
“What?” he whined. “Why are you staring at me like that?” He shivered. “It is creepy as fuck. So cut it out, will ya?”
I smiled as I shook my head at him.
