Roma jumped onto the edge of the bathroom counter. Halfway into unloading his bladder, Kodiak continued to piss in the toilet.

"Can I hold it?" She braced her hands on her knees.

His stream stopped, and he groaned, motioning for her to grab his dick.

She leaned over and wrapped her hand around him.

He realigned her hold and let loose. The splash in the toilet made her smile as if she were personally responsible for hitting the target, and he chuckled.

He'd never met anyone curious about every aspect of his life.

He finished. "Shake it."

She flopped his dick up and down. He unwrapped her fingers and tucked himself back into his jeans.

"Guys are so lucky that they can pee standing up or outside or anywhere they want." She washed her hands and hopped off the counter. "I made you coffee while you were in the shower."

"Thanks, but I don't have time." He walked out into the main room, sat on the couch, and pulled on his boots.

She sat on the arm of the sofa. "Promise you'll come back."

"You know I will."

"Promise."

He finished tying the laces and then pulled her onto his lap, wrapping his arms around her. "I promise to come back."

She buried her face in the crook of his neck and curled around his upper body.

He cupped the back of her head and held her tightly.

For months after Chopper was killed, Roma would make him promise to return every time he stepped out of the compound.

But she'd grown accustomed to him coming and going, and no longer worried about him not coming back until now.

He was due to ride out. The men were waiting for him.

Yet, he found himself sitting there, holding Roma a little longer. It hadn't been easy for her to find out about the Deception Motorcycle Club and their involvement in killing her dad.

He stroked her hair. "Did I ever tell you about the time your dad talked me into stealing a car by Kiggins Theatre?"

She lifted her head. "No."

"Chopper already had his license, but because I got in trouble with the law, I had to wait until I turned eighteen to get mine." He smoothed the hair back from her face. "That day, for some reason, your dad thought I should steal a taxi that was parked at the curb on Main Street."

"Why?"

He inhaled deeply. "Back then, who knows what went on in our heads. I think your dad was bored and wanted to go on a joy ride."

"In a taxi?" She wrinkled her nose.

"Like I said, we weren't the smartest kids." He chuckled. "It probably had a lot to do with the driver having left the key in the ignition while he ran across the street to grab dinner."

"What happened?"

"We both hopped in, and I drove off."

"Where did you go?"

"Portland." He tickled her side. "We were going to pick up girls, of course."

She rolled her eyes. "Of course."

"We didn't get that far in our plans. The cops caught us going over the I-5 bridge and pulled us over in front of Jantzen Beach." His chest warmed. "Geiser came and got us before we were taken to juvie, again. He kicked both our asses."

"I'm glad my dad had you," she whispered. "He always mentioned how he hated being in foster homes."

He nodded. Chopper had told him a few stories. They weren't the kind of things Roma should hear. What was in the past should stay in the past.

"Give me a kiss," he said.

She cupped his face and placed her lips on his mouth. A whine came through and vibrated his lips.

"Stay home," she whispered.

He picked her up and set her on her feet. "Can't, baby girl."

She sighed loudly and walked him to the door of the room. He'd like nothing more than to crawl back in bed, but that would have to wait.

"Ride safe." She threw her arms around his middle.

His chest tightened. He hated leaving her like this, worried about him.

"I'll come home. I promise." He kissed her again and walked away before he changed his mind.
