My eyes fall to his chest, where the letters of the Crestmore rowing team stretch across his shirt.
“No,” I confess. “But I’m not sure about this either.”
“We can take this slowly.”
I snort. Since when have an omega and an alpha ever been able to take things slow. The urge to fuck, to knot, to breed, is too damn strong.
He squeezes my hand and my gaze drops lower to where his fingers wrap around my smaller ones.
“Agree to another date and I promise I’ll be good until then. I won’t disturb you.” His weight shifts from one foot to another. “It has to be a proper date this time. At least two hours.”
I can’t help laughing and my eyes are drawn back to his face. The sight of him hits me afresh. He’s so good-looking it’s almost blinding.
Slowly. We can take things slowly. I can do that. Enjoy his company for a bit before he discovers the truth.
“Fine.” I tell him. “That sounds doable.”
“Thursday night. Eight o’clock. I’ll pick you up.”
“OK.”
He licks his tongue along his bottom lip and then swings my bag off his shoulder and thrusts it into my chest.
“What?” I say, grabbing it quickly before it slips to the ground.
“I’m staying out of your way,” he tells me, spinning on his toes. “Like you said. I’ll see you Thursday, Rosie.”
I’m speechless. I watch him disappear into the sea of people.
Thursday. I’m already wishing the days away.
Chapter 6
Sophia lies out on my bed, propped up on her elbows and watching me as I fling tops from my drawer and on to the floor.
“I thought this date was no big deal,” she says in an amused tone that irritates me.
“It isn’t. I’m not sure you could even call it a date.”
“Did he call it a date?”
“Yes,” I mumble.
“Then it’s a date.”
I hit the bottom of the drawer and swear. Where the fuck is it?
“And so what exactly are you doing?”
“Looking for my halter top.”
“Oh!” Sophia says and when I throw my head around to glare at her, she’s repressing a smile.
“What?”
“It’s just if this date is no big deal, why are you searching for that top?”
I stick my tongue out at her. The top is the nicest thing I own and always earns me compliments. So what if it’s the thing I want to wear tonight? So what if I want Zane to admire me in it?
