I rolled my eyes, but stopped mid eye roll, when Mase stilled me with an intense look.

“As long as our interests align.” He leaned in. “I guess they are useful.”

“Well, you better get used to them.”

He narrowed his eyes.

“If you’re not planning to take your eyes off me, you might as well join.”

He sat up.

His brain was working overtime.

”Yeah.” He nodded. “We’ll see. We need to deal with my father first.”

“Deal how?” I found the bed controller and sat up.

“Don’t ask questions like that Gracie.”

“He almost killed me. He took my son. He had Mattie killed.” My body broke out in a sweat. “We shot him and yet he still won’t die. Maybe we should just leave him alone.”

“Pussy.” He cocked his head and shook his head.

I bit my lip because laughing hurt like a son of bitch.

“Hey.” I grabbed his hand. “This shit, is our shit and what ever we need to do, we’ll do it, but promise me you won’t go looking for him. Your goal is to not put me and Cason in danger and if you go after him, I’m coming too.”

“You’re getting awfully sassy and bossy woman.” Mason ran his hand along my cheek and behind my neck.

“Yeah, well, take it out on my ass later, but now, today. I need you to promise.” I grabbed his neck. “Together.”

“Together.” He captured my lips with his and the pain melted away as Mase sealed our future with a kiss. When he pulled back and stared down at me with those intense brown eyes, my insides buzzed.

He was warring with himself on how to take me without hurting me. Those were the types of conflicts I didn’t mind.

I placed my hand on his chest.

“Now, what was it you wanted to do to me when I get better.” He leaned in and proceeded to whisper the nastiest things in my ear.

Deep in my heart, I knew Mase would keep his promise or die trying.

It was all I could ever ask for.
