“Oh, yeah.” He pointed. “Your brother went to heaven.”
It was such a mature things to say and it threw me.
I nodded.
“Sweetie,” she felt his cheek with the back of her hand. “Why don’t you show Mase the bathroom in my room and then you go get dressed. Ms. Josey will take you to school and I’ll pick you up.”
“On the bike.” She jumped up.
“No,” she giggled. “No bikes until your twelve.”
“Mom has a 2017 Harley Softtail Slim with twenty one inch front forks and a Twin Cam engine and…” He spouted out her bike vitals like he’d memorized the brochure. “Do you have a bike?”
“Yeah, it’s right outside.” I nodded. “It’s a 2018 Harley Davison Street 750.”
He giggled and held out his hand.
I looked at it and smirked. I took his hand, and a jolt struck my heart. It was the strangest feeling, like somehow the universe knew I was connected to the kid, even thought I wasn’t ready to admit it. I followed him down the hall and in ten steps I knew I’d do anything in the world to protect this little guy, and his mother.

The shower did me good.It cleared my head. I had been holding in some much since I found out the truth, it made a huge difference to let some of it go.
I turned the shower off and pushed the shower curtain back.
“Whoo.” I flattened back against the shower tile.
A petite woman, with a crazy smirk held a big ass gun pointed at my cock.
I held my hands up and then dropped them to cover myself.
“Who are you?” she growled.
I reached toward the towel on the rack.
She cocked the gun.
“Hey,” I held my hand up again. “I’m just reaching for a towel. Don’t shoot me.”
She shook her head.
“I’m a friend of Grace’s.”
“She knows better than to bring a man up in here.” The woman had a Creole accent. She held the gun like a police office. Solid stance, good grip. The kick back of the gun would probably knock her on her ass, but she wouldn’t miss.
“I —”
“Whoo Josey,” Grace stepped around the pistol wheelin woman and in front of me with her hands up. “He’s with me. He’s okay.”
“Who is he?”
“Just a friend.”
“You no bring men up in here.” She aimed the gun at the ground. “You have a child, remember?”
“Yes.” Grace nodded. “I remember.”
“What’s he doing here?” She gestured with the gun.
