Chapter Twenty-Four

Roxanne

Brand growled into my mouth. “That’s all you want?

A house?” He slipped another finger inside me, dragging his whole hand in and out, over and over, claiming me, owning me, and slamming the hard heel of his palm against my clit with every thrust in.

“I don’t give a shit where you live, but baby, if a house is what you want, I’ll build you the finest fuckin’ home in all Wyoming. ”

Were we really having this conversation up against a tree, not two-hundred yards from where his family still sat eating cheesy pasta?

But between panting breaths and moans, I said, “I d-don’t need the finest, just a nice place.

A view would be cool and a g-good kitchen.

I need counter space for all the Christmas candies and crafts I send to my n-nieces and nephews.

My place has shit counters. There’s b-barely enough room for a two-slot toaster. ”

Watching my face closely so he could see the pleasure when he gave it to me, he curled all four fingers inside me, hitting places that made my heart race and liquid gush all over his hand. “Mm. We can talk logistics later. Maybe we can hire Gina to draw up the plans.”

I froze. My hands stilled on his back where my short fingernails had probably left red divots beneath his shirt. “ What did you just say to me?”

“There she is,” he breathed. “Beautiful, argumentative Roxi. Gimme hell, girl.”

“That bitch ain’t comin’ anywhere near my beautiful, imaginary house,” I said.

His lips were close, so I bit them. Blood welled below his lip where my teeth nicked him, and he licked it away.

He stared at me in amazement. Two seconds passed, and he growled, “Get on my dick. Now.” He reached for his zipper.

“No,” I said flippantly. “I don’t think I will. Not till you make me come and then put the greedy jerk tryin’ to ruin my date in her place.”

He moaned, and my head hit bark when he slammed his mouth over mine. I bit him again but kissed the pain away this time as his hand resumed its shock-and-awe routine between my legs.

Normally, Brand’s kisses were a little possessive, commanding for sure, and intoxicating, but now, his mouth on mine was brutal and unyielding, his tongue like a snake, impossibly strong, but slow and warm and relentless.

His entire family could’ve been ten feet away, eating buckets of popcorn and sucking fountain pop through straws as they watched us go at each other, but they wouldn’t have stopped us.

Suddenly, Brand dropped to his knees and shoved my dress above my navel. He held it to my stomach with one hand and pressed his face between my legs, licking around my thong and sucking the juice from my cunt. He moaned and swallowed it eagerly and slid a slippery finger over my asshole.

“I’m gonna fuck this ass soon,” he promised. “You’ve earned it.”

My whole body shivered and stuttered, and when he bit my clit and slipped his fingers back inside, I came, biting my own lip to keep from screaming.

If I’d had a collar and leash, Brand would’ve followed me like a puppy as I sauntered to Bax’s front porch, completely relaxed and confident once more.

Brand was addicted to me now, the power struggle between us reversed again.

A little blood and pain was all it had taken.

We used the bathroom inside Bax’s house to clean up, and he rubbed between my legs with a cool, wet washcloth while I dabbed at the red bite mark below his lip with the edge of a hand towel.

“I’m sorry I bit you,” I said.

His eyes met mine. “Don’t you apologize. It was hot as fuck.”

I moaned when he cupped the washcloth over my pussy and jerked my body against his.

“Now, let’s go finish our dinner,” he whispered. “You’re gonna need strength to make it through what I have planned for you tonight.”

When we took our seats out back, Gina had mysteriously gone missing.

“I apologize,” Brand told the table as he laid his napkin over his thigh. “Mama, did your guest leave?”

Merv said nothing, but Athena chimed in. “Gina faked a call. Said she had to go, but I saw her screen. It was blank. There was no call.”

Devo snickered under her breath, and Merv frowned. Good, I hoped Gina Scott spied on us and got an eyeful.

“So,” Bax drawled, “do I need to power wash my front porch, or did y’all do it in the barn?”

“Ew, Daddy,” Athena complained. “Gross.”

Brand tried not to, but he smiled at his brother.

“Sorry, Road Trip,” Bax said to Athena. “I’ll explain later.”

“Double gross,” Athena quipped, and she rolled her eyes.

“I think I can figure it out for myself, thanks.” She stood and lifted Stuey from his highchair next to Bea.

“I’m rescuin’ Stu from this conversation.

You’re gonna burn his poor little ears.” Athena hurried away with Stuey in her arms, still munching on a piece of garlic bread, and he wiped his greasy hands on the sides of her face. “Stuey! For real? Yuck.”

“So,” Merv said, wiggling her oddly bent, arthritic pointer finger over her plate, back and forth from Brand’s face to mine, “this is a thing now?”

“Yes,” I said.

Brand hung his arm over the back of my chair. “Yes, Mama. Roxanne and I are together.”

“Okay, well next time, do you have to be so rude?”

Rude? Miss Priss deserved it. ‘ Oh Brand and I go way back, right Brand?’ Heart eyes, heart eyes, heart eyes.

Ugh. Gag me with a pitchfork.

“There won’t be a next time,” Brand informed his mom. “Gina is a work colleague, and I’d appreciate it if you didn’t invite her to any more family dinners, but I apologize if I was rude.

“I didn’t intend to be, but Roxanne and I had a few urgent things we needed to discuss.” His hand slid from the back of my chair and beneath the table. He gripped my thigh and moved it up slowly, his skin rasping against mine, and he cupped his fingers possessively over my still-soaked underwear.

No one could see where Brand’s hand was, but they could guess.

Bea’s eyebrows hit her hairline. Bax looked speechless, his mouth open, but nothing came out.

Tab slapped her hand over her mouth, and Devo smiled from ear to ear, happy about being a witness to the drama.

Poor Clay was avoiding eye contact with every single person at the table.

He seemed to have found something really interesting to look at on the roof of the house.

Abey and Merv both rolled their eyes, mother and daughter in sync, though, I was sure Abey would never admit to that.

Merv stood. “Thank you for dinner, kids. Tell Athena and Stuey goodnight for me. I’m goin’ home.”

“I’ll drive you.” Brand scooted his chair back and set his napkin next to his half-full plate on the table.

“Sit your butt down,” Merv scolded him like a little boy. “I’m not an invalid. I’m walkin’. You’re the one who said I need to walk.”

“Yes, ma’am.” He scooted back in.

Clay jumped at the opportunity. “I’ll walk with you, if that’s okay?”

“That’d be fine,” Merv said. “Thank you.”

Everyone waited a minute until Merv and Clay were far enough away, and then Bea, Bax, Devo, and Abey busted out in laughter.

Tab still looked shocked. She’d said Brand didn’t normally talk to her about his relationships, so I thought it safe to assume he didn’t usually go caveman on a woman at the dinner table either.

“Did you see Merv’s face?” Bax doubled over and slapped his hand on the table.

“Jeez, you two,” Abey said, trying not to smile, “I hope you don’t make a habit out of screwin’ all over town. Roxi has a professional reputation to uphold.”

“Oh, Roxi has a reputation alright,” Bea said, giggling, and Abey and Devo busted out in laughter.

I thought I might die of embarrassment, but this was the dinner I’d been hoping for when Brand asked me to spend the evening with his family. The Lees reminded me of my own family, my sisters and the gossiping we got up to when we were all together.

“You’re so lucky Rye ain’t here tonight, Brand,” Bax said. “He would’ve pulled up a chair to watch you and yelled back commentary for the rest of us. He’d never let you live it down.”

Brand shrugged.

“You guys, cut it out,” I said. “We didn’t have sex!”

“But you did somethin’ ,” Devo said. “What, did you bite him?” She pointed to Brand’s lip, and he lifted a finger to press against it.

With all eyes on us, the fidgeting was about get out of control under the table.

My leg tingled where I usually tapped out my one-two-threes, but Brand understood.

He wrapped his arm around me again and pulled me closer, and the urge subsided, like he was my very own grounding wire.

“My woman’s a little feisty, is all,” he said.

Abey chuckled. “I have never looked forward to book club more in my life!”

“What is this book club I keep hearing about?” Tab asked. “And how do I get in on the action?”
