“We’re not entirely sure of your motive… yet.”
“You honestly think I’m capable of such a thing?”
“It’s a possibility, yes.”
“I love Charles.”She scoffed and straightened her back.“Let me make this clear… I had nothing to do with his disappearance.I would never hurt him.”
The officer shrugged his shoulders.“We’re not saying that. But we have to look at it as a possibility.”
She laughed a cold, hollow laugh.“This is crazy. How could you suggest I hired some…killer…to murder my husband? Can’t you see I’m already in a lunatic asylum? You won’t let me see my children. What more can you people throw at me?”
The officer shook his head.“Not murder.”
“What?”
“I never used the term murder.”
Mrs.Solomon was taken aback as she registered what the officer was saying.“Why would I have him kidnapped? Why would I want to be separated from my children?”
“Your neighbor said that you were upset over Charles wanting to sell the house.Maybe you needed money?”
His partner went in for the kill.He does not realize how fragile the patient is.“Ransom? Was that it, Grace? You had to know your in-laws would pay it…”
She went with a whimper, not a bang.“That sounds like a movie. Not my life.I don’t know what you want me to say.”
The officer seems to take pity on her.“We’re weighing all the evidence, Mrs.Solomon.We wouldn’t be doing our jobs if we weren’t exploring all options.”
His partner stood and stepped forward.“In any good investigation, it’s prudent not to rule anything out.”
