“You’re being weird,” he says, narrowing his eyes on me.
“Me?” I ask, sounding guilty as fuck. “No I’m not. I’m just… enjoying myself. Excuse me.”
Dropping my phone into the safety of my pocket, I dart toward the toilet and lock myself in.
Calli: I think Alex is suspicious.
Daemon: He knows fuck all. Our dirty little secret is safe. *winky face emoji*
My teeth grind and fire begins to burn in my belly.
Calli: I never said I wanted to be your dirty little secret.
His response is almost instant, as if he’d already typed it before I even hit send.
Daemon: You love it though, don’t you, Angel? You were dripping for me last night with Alex lying right there. The risk of getting caught makes you burn even hotter for me.
“Motherfucker,” I hiss, putting my phone to sleep and lowering my arse to the toilet.
My head spins from the vodka despite my attempts to keep my drinks weak, and I can’t help but wonder if the effects are more from Daemon’s appearance than anything else.
Suddenly, I’m regretting my decision to message him yesterday. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but right now, I can’t help but wonder if he’s going to get both of us in a hell of a lot of trouble. Because if Nico and Theo suspect anything like I think Alex might, then…
Fuck. I don’t even want to think about the consequences.
I spend entirely too long in the bathroom, and when I reemerge, I feel a little stronger—until I walk straight into the one person I’d just silently told myself I’d stay as far away from as possible.
I still the second he looks up across the kitchen with two bottles of beer in his hands.
A smirk appears on his lips, dimples popping in his cheeks that make him look even more delicious and deadly than normal. His eyes drop down my body, and he studies me as if I’m standing here naked. In fact, I almost have to look down to make sure I’m not, he’s so lost in me.
“Where did you go?” I ask.
“For a drive,” he says simply, as if he hasn’t been gone for well over twelve hours. “I was going to go home, but then I reconsidered. Why would I want to be there when you’re here, sleeping in the same bed as my brother?”
“I wasn’t meant to be, but Nico and Brianna… yeah.” The less we talk about that, the better.
“I bet Alex thought all his Christmases came at once, getting you back in bed again.”
“Nothing happened with Alex, Daemon.”
“I know,” he says arrogantly. “I’m more than aware that it was my face you were coming all over last night.”
Ignoring the way all the muscles below my waist clench in desire, I push forward, desperately needing a refill if I’m going to have to spend the rest of the night dealing with this.
“I meant what I said, Daemon. I don’t want to be this sordid thing that you’re ashamed to tell your friends about.”
I startle when the bottles in his hands slam down on the counter and my back is pressed against the fridge I was about to reach into.
“I’m not ashamed of you, Angel. Never think I’m ashamed of you. Of this.”
His knuckles brush along my jaw and a shiver races down my spine.
“Then why are we hiding?”
“Because I’m not the one for you, Angel. I’m stealing something I never should have taken, and I’m a selfish motherfucker who can’t stop despite knowing that it’s exactly what I should do.”
“No,” I say, shaking my head and placing my hand over his heart. It pounds violently beneath my palm. “That’s rubbish. If you didn’t deserve it, I wouldn’t have given it to you.”
