Wednesday Afternoon

T he petulant human walked around the halls as if she were some queen.

She was nothing.

Less than nothing.

A human with no power.

Except Hel had chosen her. I would never defy my queen but the need to watch blood run from her broken body was strong enough I had to clench my fists, claws digging into flesh, to stop myself from acting on it.

I watched as she sat among her group, laughing and drawing attention from those around her. It was disgusting to see them fawn over her as if she were Hel herself.

If only she knew what she was chosen for, then she wouldn’t be so confident.

She would be the downfall of an era.

The one blamed for ruining something built for eons.

Only her failed commander and a useless gargoyle would be by her side. Watching over the carnage that was left behind by her choices and failings.

I knew her humans wouldn’t survive, nor would anyone in this building.

I would sit back and watch it all fall apart with a smile on my face. Revel in their shortcomings and fragility.

Then I would take my rightful place.
