Page 24 of Daring the Hockey Player
I finish the whiskey sour on the table and feel a nice buzz from the alcohol. The butterflies have gone to bed. "Truth or dare," I say, staring at Jasper.
"Dare."
SIX
JASPER
I still can't getthe thought of Amber with two women out of my head. I shift uncomfortably on the barstool.
I'm doing everything in my power not to react to the fact that she likes pussy but also might like cock. And I really want to know if she has any interest in riding my cock.
But I can't just ask her that without seeming like a creeper. And while I don't know her friend, Charlotte, very well, she is right. From what I’ve seen, Amber isn’t great with picking men.
At least that meth head, what was his name? He wasn’t a healthy choice for her. And I’m curious about what other bad seeds she’s dated, but that isn't at the top of my priority list for asking questions.
Besides, right now, it's my turn, and I haphazardly chose dare.
She's had two drinks. The girl definitely seems a little tipsy. I should end the game and send her home with her friend before she loses all her inhibitions.
But I want to see where this goes. For better or worse.
"Dare?" she repeats, and I swear she's plotting her revenge against me for making her prank call my older brother. Which, I might add, was hilarious. Too bad that he recognized her voice, or maybe he just assumed it was Amber because who the hell else would call and accuse him of cheating on Emerson?
It was a good guess if that's all it was.
I sip my beer and wait for her to throw me a dare.
"I dare you to kiss the prettiest girl in the room," Amber says.
Her cheeks are rosy, and she shifts on the barstool nervously. She gets fidgety when she's nervous. I've noticed that about her. It's cute and sweet.
Quite frankly, there isn't anyone other than Amber that I'd want to kiss in the bar. But she's also had a few drinks, and I'm not about to take advantage of her.
The waitress comes back to our table to check if we need any more drinks and grabs the empty glasses and beer bottles to take away.
"I'll have another whiskey sour," Amber says.
I wait until the waitress leaves before reaching my hand out to touch Amber's arm. "How'd you get here tonight?" I don't want her driving home. It wouldn't be safe for her.
"The subway," she says with a smile. Her shoulders are more relaxed, her body tilted in my direction, pointed at me. "Who are you going to kiss?" she asks.
Noah overhears her question and tosses an arm around my shoulder. "What's that?" he asks, joining in on the banter. Or maybe he's just trying to ruin my night of fun.
"We're just playing a little game. Aren't you and Owen talking?"
"I dared Jasper here to kiss the prettiest girl in the bar," she says.
Owen nudges the two in the back of the booth, and Kate climbs out. "I need to use the ladies' room. Ava, Amber, would you ladies join me?"
"Sure," Amber says and climbs off the stool. She glances back at me, swaying slightly as she stands. "Your dare will wait until I get back."
"Of course," I say with a smile. I glance at Ava and Kate, wanting them to keep an eye on Amber.
They both nod in unison, seeming to understand my silent plea.
The minute the girls round the corner, the guys are on me. "You can't sleep with her," Owen says.
I run a hand through my hair. "Who said I was going to sleep with her?"
