Page 13 of Daring the Hockey Player
"That wasn't part of the deal." I scowl at Charlotte.
"Should have been," she says with a wicked smirk.
I roll my eyes and stand when he comes near the glass. Jasper is battling another player from the Island Bruisers team, Storm. He is fighting for the puck with his hockey stick when Storm strikes upward with his stick and hits Jasper in the face.
That's all it takes for Jasper to pound Storm into the glass. He's cursing, and they're taking blows at one another right in front of me.
I'm standing, shock evident as I watch the exchange.
Kyler is over instantly, and instead of pulling Jasper off the Island Bruisers player, he's right there with him. But it's not two against one. It's an entire team battling it out, fighting, and suddenly, I understand when they say a fight breaks out at a hockey game because, holy crap, not even the referee has control.
There are curses and punches being thrown, men shoved up against the glass, and somewhere between the beatings and the threats of violence, Jasper meets my stare.
"You're supporting them?" His jaw drops, and he lands a few more blows to Storm’s chest. Storm doesn’t just stand there and take it. He shoves Jasper against the glass, his back to me, knocking Jasper’s helmet off.
“Jasper!” I scream.
The referee gains control, and Jasper Greyson and Knox Storm are sent to the penalty box. Jasper bends down, grabbing his helmet, but he doesn’t turn around. He doesn’t look at me. And I wonder if listening to Charlotte was the best idea.
FOUR
JASPER
“What the hell was that?”Kyler asks as I’m finally delegated to the bench after a stint in the penalty box.
I’m not having my best game, and the fact that Emerson’s little sister, Amber, is in the stands, wearing an Island Bruisers jersey, is killing me.
What the hell did I ever do to her?
Okay, it's probably not personal. But fuck me, she looked so excited watching me get the shit kicked out of me.
Some family we're becoming.
"Your girlfriend's sister has front-row seats," I mutter.
Kyler glances behind us at the private seats where our players bring friends and family. "I don’t see Amber."
"She's not sitting there," I grumble. "And she's wearing a fucking Bruisers jersey."
"Ouch," Kyler says with a smirk. "Might have to tattle on her to Em." He lets it roll off him like water, as if the news doesn't strike him as odd or hurtful.
It bothered him when Emerson wore an Island Bruisers jersey. Hell, it bothered the fuck out of him when she came sportinghisIsland Bruisers jersey with ridiculous drawings that the guys gave him as a go fuck yourself present.
"Where is she?" Kyler glances around the stands.
I nod in the direction of the goalie, trying my best to be discreet. "Front row, where I got into it with Knox."
"What the hell was that between you and Storm?" Kyler asks.
"Old shit," I say, not wanting to get into it with my older brother. There are some things that he doesn't know about the past, from when I was thirteen. I don't intend on drudging that shit up.
"Over a girl?" Kyler guesses.
"Do I look like I'm seeing anyone?" I glare at my brother to zip it.
"What are you going to do about Amber?" my brother asks.
I exhale a heavy breath. "Fuck if I know. Throw her one of my jerseys to put the fuck on over that monstrosity?"
