CHAPTER ONE

DESTINY

T his was crazy and Jessa was crazy for even suggesting it. This was the worst idea ever. Moving away from their hometown to go to a college in the town their estranged sister lived was something that only people who were out of their minds would do.

Destiny knew that her sister wanted to rekindle the relationship with their older sister. She couldn’t deny that she would love to do the same, but Destiny wasn’t holding her breath.

Too many years had passed since they last saw each other and Destiny knew that her sister had moved here and started a life of her own. She couldn’t deny that she hadn’t looked her up to make sure she was okay.

She didn’t openly stalk her like J did though. If people found out they would surely think that she belonged in an insane asylum.

Destiny turned as the dorm door opened and her twin walked in carrying in a box. It was move in day at the college and their parents had taken the weekend off to help them move in.

She couldn’t wait for them to leave though. One thing that Destiny was excited about was the fact that they would finally be free from the wardens.

Jessa was embracing college life and had already managed to make friends just today. Classes hadn’t even started yet and she had already found where the party was going to be tonight.

Destiny wished that she was as outgoing as her sister, but that was never the case. Growing up, Jessa was always the more outgoing twin. Everyone knew her name no matter where they were.

It was always Jessa and her twin. It was like they forgot that Destiny was a person of her own. Shaking her head to clear the depressing thoughts going through her mind she smiled at her sister.

“Have mom and dad left yet?”

“Not yet, but I know that they are fixing to. They said something about wanting to get on the road before it got too dark. We know how dad is about driving down the backroads.”

Destiny rolled her eyes. She did know how her dad felt about driving down the backroads at night. She didn’t blame him though.

The deer were horrible in their area and all it took was one jumping in front of their car. Dad has helped many people in the early hours of the morning after someone became a victim of the crazed deer.

“Good, I can’t deny that I am ready for them to go. I feel like I can breathe just a little bit.”

“I get it sissy. I feel the same way. Just think the next four years are going to be the best years of our lives.”

“Maybe for you. We know that you can find friends no matter where you go. It will be more of a struggle for me.”

“Well, we will see if we can help change that for you. If not, that’s okay too. You are perfect like you are and don’t forget that.”

Destiny turned back to the box that she was unboxing. She didn’t want her sister to see just how much effect the words she said had on her.

Her self worth was rubbish and she knew that. Jessa cut off her thoughts before they could continue to run down that rabbit hole again.

“Soooooo…I was thinking.”

“Oh goodness. What about now?”

“I found her address.”

Destiny didn’t have to question who this she was in question. Jessa has been dying to reach out to their sister and it doesn’t surprise her that she somehow managed to get her hands on Raelyn’s address.

“Do I want to know what kind of law you broke to find that information?”

“Uh, it might be best if you don’t ask. Wouldn’t want to make you an accomplice to crime.”

Yeah, Destiny figured it was something slightly on the illegal side. Jessa didn’t know boundaries and that would one day get her into trouble.

“Anyways, I was thinking that maybe we could go there tonight.”

“TONIGHT?! WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD WE JUST SHOW UP AT HER HOUSE!”

“Will you lower your tone? All of IMU just heard you.”

Destiny rolled her eyes. This called for yelling. You don’t just show up to someone's house without contacting them first. That’s how things turn south.

“Listen, if we just show up she can’t help but talk to us. There’s no avoiding it.”

“That is not the way to handle that and you know it Jessa.”

“Okay, maybe not. I still think we should go tonight. Might as well rip the bandaid off. There will never be a good time to do it.”

Destiny couldn’t deny that she was right about that. There would never be a good time to visit the sister that has been missing in their life for over six years.

“Whatever, you’re right. I guess we can do that, but know that I reserve the right to say ‘I told you so’ when it blows up in your face.”

“Deal. I’ll let you have that one if it does, but I refuse to believe that the worst is going to happen. Gotta manifest the good things you want to happen.”

Here Jessa went again with the manifesting stuff. She believed that something would happen just cause you spoke it into the universe.

Destiny has no clue where she got that information and why she believes it to be true, but Destiny didn’t have a reason to deny the validity of it all. There wasn’t any proof that proved either of their points, so Destiny just let her believe what she wanted to.

“When did you want to go over there?”

“I figured there was no reason to wait and we could just go after we were done unpacking.”

Nodding, Destiny knew that this meant she had a few more hours to wrap her brain around seeing her sister again for the first time. Turning to the task at hand, the twins started to talk about what groups they found interesting.

Destiny’s hands shook as she went to open the car door of the uber they ordered. They hadn’t brought the car they shared to campus, since everything was within walking distance and it felt like it wasn’t necessary.

Taking a deep breath, she forced herself out of the car and met Jessa on the sidewalk. No going back now.

Looking up at the house in front of them, Destiny couldn’t help the grin that spread across her face. She was so proud of the life that her sister had made for herself after the wardens kicked her out.

Following Jessa up the driveway that ended way sooner than Destiny wanted it to, they stood before the door that separated them from Rae. Destiny waited for Jessa to make the move and knock, but turning to her twin she realized that it was finally kicking in that this was a crazy idea.

“You were right, D. This is crazy, we should just go back to the dorm.”

“Oh, now you want to listen to reason. Too late J, we are here, might as well just see what happens.”

Forcing herself to be the brave one for once, Destiny reached out and pressed the doorbell. It felt like an eternity before the door opened and standing before them was their brother-in-law Emmett.

“Raelyn, you might want to come here.”

“Who’s at the door, Daddy?”

Destiny’s heart raced listening to her sister call her husband Daddy. That made her feel a little less like a freak for her own kinks.

Watching Raelyn step from behind Emmett, Destiny let out a small gasp.

“Jessa? Destiny?”

Before they could even say anything, they watched in horror as Raelyn’s eyes rolled to the back of her head before she started to fall. That wasn’t the reaction that they were hoping for.

Stepping forward, they followed Emmett into the house as he carried Rae inside.

“WHAT HAPPENED TO RAELYN?!” They heard someone shout out from the living room.

“She passed out, but she’s okay. I caught her before she could hit the ground.”

“Uncle E why in the world would she….”

They heard the strangers' words trail off as her eyes landed on them standing in the doorway.

“Who are you?”

“Olivia! Is that how we talk to people?”

“No, Daddy. I’m sorry.”

Destiny cleared her throat to answer her question since it seemed like the cat still had her twin's tongue.

“Well, uh..,I’m Destiny and this carbon copy standing beside me is my twin sister Jessa.”

“Wait, THE Destiny and Jessa?”

Destiny didn’t know how to answer that question. Who else could they be?

“You’re the sisters. The ones that Rae left behind when the wardens kicked her out.”

A meek reply came from the couch where Raelyn was lying, “Yes, my bestest friends in the whole world.”

Jessa turned and grinned at Destiny as to say ‘I told you so’ before giving Rae the smallest wave.

“What are y'all doing here?”

“Well, we were hoping that you would want to see us.”

The room quieted after Jessa whispered her reply. A heavy weight settled on Destiny’s shoulders as she waited for Rae’s reply.

“Of course I would want to see y’all!”

Destiny let out the breath that she didn’t even know she had been holding onto. She didn’t realize just how much she wanted her sister to want them in her life until that moment.
