by Charli xcx peeling away false layers to reveal the naked core of a person. I’d done it with myself and felt freer than I ever had. Maybe if Max had someone to show him the way, he’d find his own type of freedom.

I tapped my finger against my lip. It may be difficult. I had him intrigued after my whispered promise at Red, and I’d raise the stakes when we went out Friday night. Max needed to be kept off balance—it was the best way to keep his attention.

As for Elle, Coop, and Noah?

Well, I’d keep an eye on them. Noah looked at Elle the same way Landon had looked at Adam.

But with Noah, it was more of a puppy dog, longing look—not the hate/love dynamic Landon exhibited.

Coop and Elle had a steamy sex life, but I knew Coop was too much like Max.

He wasn’t matched for the depth of Elle.

Maybe nothing would change, because the idea of Daisy getting hurt in the whole mess actually had me wince.

She was literally one person I was worried about; the lone prey in a pack full of predators.

Still, instinct stirred and warned something else was coming. Another change that may destroy the last bond of the group.

Or maybe we all needed to break so we could grow stronger. If we all survived an epic fall-out, and came back together, wouldn’t that prove we could get through anything?

Either way, there was one thing I did know.

It’d be fun.
