Not only is Adhan disappointed in me, but I’ve made him angry. I feel my shoulders slump. I’d been so looking forward to today, and now it’s ruined.
“Do you know where they are staying?” Jude asks Cam.
Cam shakes his head. “No, they might just be day visitors. I’ll hang around the ticket office until closing in case they come back.”
“I doubt they will be back today,” Adhan says. “Ernest, go to the ticket office and take over from whomever is there. If you see them arrive, contact me immediately.”
I nod. “Will do.”
“I’ll stick around as well, Dark, go home and look after Connie so mum can come and look around,” he puts his hand in his pocket and pulls out his car keys, handing them to Sal.
Sal nods.
“This isn’t over Dark, we’ll talk more about this later,” Jude tells him.
“Okay,” he says softly. He looks at me. “Sorry, Ernest. See you all later,” and with that, he walks off in the direction of the car park.
“Come on Ernest, to the kiosk with you,” Cam says.
“Okay,” I look at Adhan. “I’ll see you later.”
He nods. “You will.”
I think this is only the second time I’ve walked away from Adhan and he hasn’t smiled or kissed me. The first time being our first argument, when he tried to stop me from going to work after I played with magic.
“He’ll calm down soon,” Cam says as we walk towards the entrance.
“I know. We both forgot that visitors wouldn’t know us, and had nothing to fear from us.”
“Hopefully we’ll see them again and explain things,” Cam said. “Now smile so you don’t scare anyone else.”
CHAPTER 16
The alarm goes off the next morning and I turn it off, but make no move to get up or wake Adhan.
I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening selling tickets and smiling at the visitors, trying to be happy but I got more than one confused look from the locals.
Adhan came to collect me when the kiosk closed. He held my hand, but I could tell he was still annoyed with me. We went straight to bed, and he kissed me on the head and fell asleep.
He must have moved in his sleep as I’m wrapped up in his arms, like always.
I can’t believe Sal and I scared the young boy. I don’t think I’ve scared anyone in my life, but knowing I did, and to a child, hurts. So does my chest, I have that horrible upset mate pain. I’ve only felt this once before, after our first argument.
“You didn’t do it on purpose,” Adhan says, kissing the back of my head.
“I know, but still,” I reply and move around so I can look at Adhan. “I’m sorry I made you angry and disappointed.”
“I know. All we can do now is hope we run into them and try and make amends.”
“We can,” I look at Adhan. “Will you kiss me?”
Adhan smiles and pulls me into a kiss.
I sigh as everything inside me settles, and the chest pain fades. It settles even more after Adhan makes love to me numerous times. Thank goodness I have the morning off today.
It’s late when we both get up, so much so the kitchen is empty by the time we get down there. Emily, bless her, has left breakfast in the oven for us. We eat up and then tidy our things away.
“Shall we walk into town?” I ask.
