Page 135 of C is for Comfort
“I think I might be the happiest man alive,” I say.
“You’re not,” Corey says knowingly.
“Oh?”
“I am.”

“Relax,” Blake says as I check my cravat for the hundredth time.
“Why did I get ready so early?” I ask.
“Because you wanted to be organised,” Archie says. “You look great, and it’s almost time.”
I step away from the hotel room window to face my brothers. “Thank you for both agreeing to be my best men.”
“Like we’d say no,” Blake points out.
I laugh.
“Did you contact the Guinness Book of Records?”
“Why?”
“To get in there for having a wedding with the most best men ever.”
I glare at him.
“What? It’s true!”
It probably is true. I have Archie and Blake—there was no way I could choose between them—and Spence has Hamish, Calvin, and Gabe. Five best men between us, plus Lexi and Tabitha as flower girls and Robbie as a page boy. This really is the lavish wedding our parents always wanted for at least one of us.
There’s a knock on the door.
“I’ll get it,” Archie says, getting off the double bed he and Blake are sitting on.
“It’s probably someone letting us know the registrar is ready for us.”
I tap my knuckles against my thigh. I hope so. I can’t stand anymore waiting. It seems crazy to be this nervous. I love Spence and want to marry him. We’ve been living together for the past three months. This is just a formality. A formality with dozens of guests watching us as we say our vows. Oh god. I’m going to mess it up, aren’t I?
Archie shuts the door and walks over to me, holding out a large cream envelope. “This was dropped off at reception for you.”
I frown.
“Open it later,” Blake says. “I’ll put it with the other cards and gifts.”
I stare at the envelope in Archie’s hands. Common sense tells me that Blake is right, I should open it later, but my curiosity screams at me to open it now. I take it from Archie and open it. Inside, there’s a congratulations card. Okay. Maybe it’s from a guest that couldn’t be here. I open it, my chest clenching as I read the short and simple message.
Have a wonderful wedding day. I’m glad you’re happy. Caroline.
I press my hand to my mouth, shove the card into Archie’s hands, and turn away, tears stinging my eyes.
Seconds later, my brothers are standing at my shoulders.
“Her parents must have told her you and Spence were getting married,” Archie says.
