Page 71 of Big Daddy to Go
“It’s so perfect,” she smiles.
“Like you, sweetheart.”
Her blush spreads across her cheeks, and she clears her throat.
“Just promise me one thing, Kane.”
“Anything,” I tell her, brushing her hair off her shoulder. I’m serious about this.
“Don’t leave me at the altar. If you need to call off the engagement for any reason, just do it. But don’t make me go through that again, okay?”
I laugh, amused.
“Lexi, I promise you I won’t call off our engagement. And I definitely won’t stand you up at the altar. I will marry you tomorrow, if you want, and never look back. My future is right in front of me,” I smile, cupping her face in my hands and pecking her lips.
She grins and stares down at the ring again. I can tell there’s more she wants to say.
“Everything okay?” I ask. “You’re keeping something from me.”
She looks up at me with tears running down her face. Concern fills me.
“Baby?” I ask, wiping the droplets away with my thumbs.
“Exactly,” she chuckles.
“What?” Exactly what? Is Lexi speaking in riddles?
“If you do get cold feet, you wouldn’t just be leaving me…” she explains, taking my hands from her cheeks as she rolls onto her side. She places my hands on her bare belly.
My eyes widen as I glance from her face to her stomach.
“You’re pregnant?”
Lexi nods, and I wrap her into a hug.
“How did you manage to get me the perfect engagement present?” I ask her. “I’m ecstatic, sweetheart! Shit! We’re going to be parents!”
She nods happily, with tears still in her eyes.
“It’s a gift for us both, Kane.”
“Thank you,” I tell her, overcome with emotion, “for giving me a family.”
I drop my head to Lexi’s chest and hug her. She runs her fingers through my hair lovingly.
“Thank you for bringing me back to life,” she whispers.
I look up at her, both of us in tears. We chuckle at how emotional we both are over this moment before we share a loving kiss.
As Lexi lies wrapped in my arms that night, I lightly run my fingers up and down her back, lulling her to sleep. I love how the curvy girl fits like a missing piece against me. It’s as if she aligns with my body and soul perfectly. I have waited a long time for Lexi to come into my life, and I will never let her go.
I have many successes in life, but my biggest one will be making her my wife and raising our child together.
